Where Is Logie - Part 2.....

Post by darylrodger » Mon Jun 12, 2006 10:14 pm

Hello again,

There are several Logie's in Perthshire, the Logie's that are located in Perthshire are named Logie-Pert, etc. is this the same one that's mentioned in the O.P.R.'s ?

Hi Daryl,

I think the Logie that you are after was the parish that was split across boundaries into three counties until 1891. For OPR and registration purposes, it is regarded as having been in Perthshire, although was previously split between Perthshire, Clackmannashire and Stirlingshire.

The Logies (separate places) in Scotland that were parishes or registration districts are as follows.

Logie Buchan, Aberdeenshire
Logie Coldstone, Aberdeenshire
Logie Pert, Angus (Forfarshire)
Logie, Fife
Logie, Perthshire / Clackmannanshire / Stirlingshire
Logierait, Perthshire
Urquhart & Logie Wester, Ross & Cromarty (and an exclave of Nairnshire)
Logie Easter, Ross & Cromarty

So beware, Logie Pert was not in Perthshire.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for that info. Does that mean I should look in the archives in Stirling, Perthshire, and Clackmannshire for O.P.R records ?

Perthshire - that is where GROS have counted Logie as, throughout the records. It is possible that the copies of the OPR microfilms are held by others.

As far as I know, the Perthshire OPRs should be held at the A K Bell Library in Perth; New Register House, Edinburgh and the SGS Library, Edinburgh. They may also be held by some of the Family History Societies and LDS Family History Centres.

If your family strayed into the Clackmannanshire or Stirlingshire parishes, such as Alloa or Stirling, then other libraries may have to be considered. Have a look at the TalkingScot Libraries page (link at the top of this page).

All the best,

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for that. I shall follow your suggestions, and with luck might find some info on my ancestor!

Many thanks,

Daryl

Hi Daryl,

I see you are within reasonable reach of the Mitchell Library. Their OPR holdings include Stirlingshire and Clackmannanshire, but not Perthshire.

Hi Andrew,

I shall go and visit the Mitchell and have a look at the archives to see if I can find any details regarding Peter.

Thank you for all your help.

Regards,

Daryl
