Eastons in Tarbert, Argyll.....

Hello

I'm trying to find a connection between my Easton family and those in Tarbert.

In the 1881 Tarbert census there's Archibald Easton, born 1849, and William Easton, born 1851. The both are "born in Glasgow", are married and have children. Their first sons were named William. Archibald's marriage cert (to Margaret Campbell - his second cousin as the cert says) from 1872 and death cert from 1914 give his parents as William Easton, weaver, and Margaret Smith. But in the IGI there's a birth of Archibald Easton 1849 in New Monkland to William Easton & Margaret Jack. William & Margaret had also, according to the IGI, a son named William, born 1846.

The William Easton born 1846/47 in Airdrie can be found in the 1861 Census living with his aunt's (Elizabeth Jack, mar. Monteith) flat in Airdrie, along his sister Elizabeth Easton, born about 1851 in Airdrie. William's occupation looks like "bankers apprentice"?? The Tarbert Eastons were fishermen.

William Easton & Margaret Jack were married 1846 in New Monkland. William seem to have died early; Margaret got married again in 1860. She died 1889 in Airdrie - the death cert calls her first husband William "blacksmith". William Easton was, according to the IGI, born in 1820. Given the fact his first son was named William, he might be the William Easton born 1820 in Carriden as th son of William Easton & Janet Andrew. William's & Janet's family lived in Airdrie in the Censuses of 1841 and 1851. Son William is in the 1841 census with his family but not in the 1851 one.

I'd appreciate any help & advice on solving this problem. I can't find a couple named William Easton & Margaret Smith anywhere!

Hello Robin,

The Archibald Easton living in Tarbert in 1881 was born in Barrhead.

This looks like him in the 1851 Barrhead census and looks like he may be living with parents William and Margaret and look where Margaret was born.

Thank you very much for help. I must have got the birth place wrong! I found his marriage etc. with the name Easdon, and am quite sure he's not of my family. I'll keep looking for William, b. 1846.
