my nans "secret" life!!!.....

Post by shipperley » Mon Jun 26, 2006 4:21 pm

Hi all, :)
My nan moved to london sometime in the early 1940's.She married there and had 4 kids.
Her life before this is a mystery :?
The only thing we know for sure is her maiden name ,ELSIE STEWARTand that she was born around Fraserburgh in 1921.
It is believed she may have been married to a man named Alexander Sim in 1941,before her move south.
I can't find any record of her or the marriage or Alexander Sim.
WHERE AM I GOING WRONG?
Any help, advice or info would be great,
thanks julie

Hi Julie
...and a warm welcome to Talking Scot :D

Births available on line at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk only go up to 1905, so this will explain why you can't find your nan's birth. Marriages go up to 1930, so again your estimated date after those available online. If you are planning a trip to Edinburgh you could look these up at New Register House yourself, or failing that you may be lucky enough to find someone who is going there and will look it up for you.

Other options woud be to contact GROS directly and ask them to look for you - there is a fee for this, see:
www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/famrec/bdm.html
...or you could hire a researcher to do it for you.

Best wishes
Lesley
