Help on the Johnstone family.....

Hi everyone,
struggling to find any info on the Johnstone family from Townhead area of Glasgow.

Mother - Annie Burns B(C1900)
Father - Robert Johnstone B(C1900)

Sons - Ian Johnstone B(C1930).
Micheal Johnstone B(C1930).
Albert Johnstone B(C1930).
George Johnstone B(C1930).
Bobby Johnstone B(C1930).
Billy Johnstone B(C1938) D(C1957).

Daughters - Nancy Johnstone B(C1930).
Flora Johnstone B(C1930).
Mary Johnstone B(C1930).
Agnes Johnstone B(C1930).
Barbara Johnstone B(1935) D(1999).

This is all I have to go on, save for a few branches out from the above names but so far have had nothing.

Please help.

Hi Poacher

Have you tried the 1901 census - I did a quick search there for Johnstone, Robert aged 1 - 2 and it threw up only 8 in Glasgow. It might be worth spending 1 credit to see if any are in the right area.

Thanks for your reply.

I've checked the census but none of them seem to match & because I don't know his parents it's like a needle in a haystack & plus I cant check the other records for marraige etc or the births of the children.

Any pointers?

Marriages on Scotlandspeople go up to 1930, have you not found Annie and Robert on it ?

The closest i have just seen is a marriage
1919 ROBERT JOHN JOHNSTON AGNES MURDIE CA BURNS BLYTHSWOOD GLASGOW CITY/LANARK
Nothing found under Johnstone with an e and Burns and dont know what the CA is after Murdie

Seem to have hit a big brick wall, either they didn't exist or they changed their names. Cant find a thing.

Barbara Johnstone B(1935) D(1999).

I dont know if i have missed something here but you seem to know this ones year of birth. Have you got her birth certificate ? Does a 1935 Scottish birth certificate still have parents marriage date on ? to enable you to go on or back in your research

I know of the date of birth as its my mother but unfortunately I don't have sight of the birth certificate. Only going off what others in the family know.

Apparently her name was Barbara Burns Johnstone and one of her sisters was Flora Mc (or Mac) Donald Johnstone.

No idea why, they had the same father.

Completely baffled and at a dead end

If you are pretty sure of her birth year, it might be worth contacting GROS and getting a copy of the birth cert:

One thing should then lead to another!!

However, I'm not sure where you are but if you can make it into Glasgow (Park Circus) or Edinburgh (NRH) it migth we well worth your while doing that instead as you could look up a lot of the other events you are looking for whilst you are there.

I've checked over the birth certificate yesterday, well, my sister did, parents details are correct but they just don't show up in any records whatsoever.

The mothers name was either Annie/Nancy Johnstone.

Having a nightmare on this & must admit about ready for giving it up as a bad joke

Anyone?
