I'm so stuck here, I can't see the woods for the trees.

I'm trying to find James Hyslop - parents Thomas and Sarah Hislop (MS Bonar).

James married his wife Jeanie Burns Candlin 28th Dec 1917 at the age of 23 - this would have meant he was born around 1894. I've looked around then and can't find him.

I was talking about this with my MIL the other day and she said that he was 77 when he died in 1966 which would have put his birth year more around 1889 - but he isn't on the family census of 1891.

Can't get him on the 1901 census either, although I have found other members of his family.

I'm totally stumped.

I've tried Hislop and Hyslop, but no luck - am I missing something obvious?

try one of the districts neighbouring Blantyre, such as Hamilton in 1892.

I have done - nowt of James, although other family members were born there.

You know what - I just done a search on Blantyre and nothing, then another on Hamilton, and BINGO found him.

So - why when I done the ALL search didn't it pick him up then?
