Denham / Horsburgh & Stevenson / Drummond, Fife connecti
New to this Geneology idea I got hooked at Christmas and managed to trace some of my roots back on my father's side to c1807. Now I'm stuck!
JANET DENHAM born Carnbee c1810 married JAMES HORSBURGH born Carnbee c1807 and they begat Grace Horsburgh born Carnbee in 1832, and she is my GG Grandmother.
It seems likely that St Monans couple CHRISTIAN STEVENSON married ROBERT DRUMMOND and begat Robert Drummond in September 1829, and he is my GG Grandfather.
On the 'other' side of the family around that time I've found ANN HEUGH/HUGH (Coaltown of Wemyss) and GEORGE DEWAR of Anstruther marrying on 20/07/1840 and MARGARET BRIGGS (West Wemyss)marrying JOHN ADAMSON of Dysart on 23/11/1832.
Their respective offspring AGNES DEWAR and WILLIAM ADAMSON are my GG Grandparent on that side.
I'd be grateful for any assistance at all to trace any older connections to these families or to make contact with any branches of my extended family tree before I wither away!

Might be able to help in a broad sense with Fife connections - I'll check on what I have first thing in the morning.

Hi Jake,
I did a Google search on your family names and came up with the following site.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/kevin.grantham/
The person seems to be researching the same families and just wondered if you had already been in touch?

Hi Jake
Not sure if you are far from Fife, but if you are local, a trip to Cupar or Kirkcaldy library would be well worthwhile as both hold Old Parish Registers (microfilm) for all parishes in Fife. Its always worth looking up marriages and births in OPRs as they sometimes contain extra little bits of info. Books of Monumental inscriptions for the area will also be available there.
Have you looked for deaths of, for example JANET DENHAM and JAMES HORSBURGH? Their deaths, of after 1855, would most likely give you their parents' names and take you back another generation. Try www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
Also worth checking the census from 1841 onwards - again available on microfilm at the above libraries but also on-line at www.freecen.org.uk (free transcription site, not complete yet) and also at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
Best wishes
Lesley
p.s. A search on Scotlands People reveals that a Janet Denholm/Horsburgh died in Fife in 1875 - birth year appears to be 1811 (but will be based on age given at time of death) at Carnbee - seems too much of a coincidence to ignore....
and also
a Christina Drummond/Stevenson died aged 85 in 1891 in Fife - at St Andrews this time, so not quite what might be expected. No way of knowing these are yours for sure withough paying up and checking!!

Hi Jake
I am currently researching my Adamsons from Dysart and Wemyss (all coal miners) and believe it or not as a result of a recent search I was doing on William born circa 1841 I have your (and possibly my) John Adamson and Margaret on the 1851 census living at West Coaltown in the parish of Wemyss with 7 weans, William being one of them born circa 1841. Furthermore I can tell you that John Adamson died on 10th April 1876 aged 60 years at Coaltown and Margaret died at the ripe old age of 92 years on 21st May, 1906 also at Coaltown. Son William was the informant on both occasions. John is the son of William Adamson and Elizabeth Mathewson and Margaret is the daughter of Munro Briggs and Margaret Keddie.
How's that for coincidence
Interestingly enough my 4 times Great Grandmother was Agnes Dewar born Largo 1764. I know your Agnes was much later than that but who knows, there just might be a connection.
Hope this helps
Regards
Annette R

Hi again JakeJake Drummond wrote:AnnetteR,
Try looking at my family tree on Genes Reunited, type in "John Gardner Ritchie Adamson Drummond" and ask to see my tree. This will open the link and I'll allow access, and I think you'll find that there is a connection!
Jake
Tried everything on Genes Reuinted to get to look at your tree but failed miserably. I have therefore sent a message via GR asking to view your tree so we will see if that works. There is no point in my giving you permission to see my tree as I don't publish it on that site (a few names only) but, if we have a connection and by your message it sounds promising, I will forward my email address via a PM and we can compare notes.
Regards
