Please help me to find my Dad!!!.....

Post by yummymummy » Tue Jul 11, 2006 5:41 pm

hello....My name is Louise....Im looking for my Father, David Smith-Murray...he would be approx 59-61 years old by now...I have no idea where abouts in Scotland he lived or lives or even if he still does...in 1967 he worked in Nottinghamshire, England on a power station and thats when he met my Mother...Betty...she was 18 and he was about 22 at the time...and then I came along...there was alot of hassle between my Mothers side of the family and my Dad...he wanted to see me and be with my Mother but she had to make a choice. She stayed and he left...he still came back and brought me birthday presents until I was 3 years old and members of my family warned him off. When I was 21, my Dad came to the town where I live and bumped into my Mum in a pub...he didn't get a very good reception and all I have ever heard is the bitter side of things. She told me a week later my Dad had been in town...that hurt me. I am told that I look very much like my Dad...the same eyes, build, hair..everything. Its difficult when you don't know one of your parents...I have another side of a family I have missed out on all these years and want so much to meet him before its too late...I have searched for years but to no avail...I am now 38 and he has 3 lovely grandchildren I would love him to meet. If anyone can help me with any information about my Dad, I would be extremely grateful. :?

Hi there yummymummy and a warm welcome to TS. What a sad story you have to tell - I do hope that someone will come along and offer you some help on how and where you should/could begin your search. I've no real experience of searching recent records, but lots of folk on this site do.

I've found since I joined at the beginning of the year that everyone is very helpful and great at offering ideas to those who ask for help. If you think he might still be in Scotland have you tried the on-line phone directory at http://192.com/ - I had a quick look and a few come up in the electoral roll section. Might be worth a try. You'll have to register and pay ....

If I'm wrong, someone will be along later to offer more guidance.

Good luck.

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone visiting NRH soon could do a death lookup for Yummy's dad just to eliminate this option.

Yummy,

Do you know if you dad got married or where he came from in scotland etc and did he have any brothers or sisters.

Hope we can find him.

I used 192 and eventually found my fathers brother but it can take a while so don't give up.

Cheers

Stuart

I'm going to NRH at the end of the week - happy to do a look up. (I'd already noted the info and planned to try anyway). Any more information you have Yummy to try to narrow it down.

Best wishes

Hi Yummy
If you have any personal info to pass on to Pinkshoes, it might be best to use the PM button under her posts - this sends a private message. The forum is very public! :D

Best wishes

Hi all...thankyou so much all for replying to my post and trying to help me...it means so much to me...its a difficult situation because my Mum wont give me any information about my Dad...she won't talk about it...the things I know are what Ive found out from other people who knew my Dad at the time he was with my Mum...I don't know anything about his background or family members...just his name ...approx age and where he worked...he might not even be in Scotland anymore but its a starting place for me..I don't want to hurt my Mum but finding my Dad is something I need to do. Thankyou once again....Ive tried the Salvation Army but they won't help me because my parents weren't married...he's not named on my birth certificate

Hi Yummy,
Maybe try writing to some newspapers, but difficult if you don't know which particular area your dad might be.
The Scottish "Daily Record" is one paper that occasionally has messages in their Letters Page from folk looking for others.
Wishing you eventual success,
Jack
