Hi,
I haven't seen any mentioned so far.
Is anyone searching for McGhee's, probably around Saltcoats? Late 1800's.
Please let me know, Also looking for McMonnigals (hundreds of spelling variations) from Glasgow. These ones are my brick, covered in steel, walls.
Thanks
Jacquie

Dear Jacquie
Welcome to TS. Sorry I'm not looking for McGhee folk - that's probably going to be quite tricky for you. BUT - you'll find people on the site very helpful and if you post a specific difficulty you've got, they'll try and help you out with suggestions. I've had great help. There are people with great knowledge and they're happy to share. Some comedians too - so have a look around the site if you've not already done that ...
It's also worth using the search button at the top of the page from time to time, just to see if anyone searching for any of your names turns up. Sometimes when people (and I include myself in this one!) join up they don't know to check that out.
Good luck.
Liz

Greetin's Jacquie
An a waaarm welcome to TS.
I have hundreds of McGhee, McGee and McGie records, with the occasional Mac thrown in.
Mostly from Ayrshire, going as far back as Katherin McGee, born in Kilwinning in 1690.
Father: John
Mother:Mary Dicky.
The 1881 census shows no McGhee's having been born in Saltcoats but four McGee.
As Liz suggersts, give us some specific names, and if I cannot help, I am sure one of the troops on here will.

Hi Davie,
Thanks very much for your offer.
I don't have very much info since I didn't know my grandfather at all and my grandmother wouldn't talk about him. If you asked it was like you had said a bad word at the dinner table, ( a look I'm very familiar with) so here's what I have.
Alexander McGhee (grandfather) was born April 4 1911 in Saltcoats, Ayr.
He was the son of Hugh McGhee and Elizabeth Monteith Nixon. They were married June 29th 1906 in Saltcoats. They were divorced Jan 1919. Given on the marriage certificate was his parents, Patrick Henry McGhee and Elizabeth MS Foreman. as well as usual addresses of Carment Drive, Stevenson for Hugh and Parkend Rd, Saltcoats for Elizabeth Nixon or Liza.
On his divorce Hugh's occupation is given as cordite worker, it's given as Coalman LMS Railway on Alexander's marriage cert (1935). On Hugh's marriage cert Patrick's occupation is given as Cloth, Bee?? Cer ( deceased) ( I have no idea what cloth / bee means).
Family rumour has it that Alexander came from a large family with a possible move to Greenock where they owned a "sweetie shop" but I've found nothing about that.
That's about all I have, hoping that some may sound familiar but if not thanks for your help.

re: MCGHEE
Hi everyone,
Was searching the site when I came across this message. In the family of BRANNAN there is a James BRANNAN m. to Jannet MCGEE in Kilbirnie, Ayrshire in 1851, he was 21yrs, bap.1830 and b. Eaglesham, Renfrewshire. Jannet was b. in Beith 1826 and parents were John and Jean ARCHIBALD.
At this stage I thought parents of James were John and Ann (Jamison) but I have since been told that there is also a Ann MCNAMARA mentioned, possibly Ann J. died and John remarried Ann MC. Any info. on John and the 2 Anns' would be greatly appreciated! James and family emigrated to N.S.W. Aust. and I have a great deal of info. for that period.
Thank you for any replies.
Mrs. Bee

Hello Mrs. Bee,
Welcome to Talking Scot!![[talkingscot] [talkingscot]](./images/smilies/talkingscot.png)
I assume James died in NSW. Was an occupation given for his father on his death certificate, or just a name? Was his mother's name given at all?
Have you been able to find James' parents in any census? Just wondering if they survived past 1855, which would be nice
All the best,
Sarah

re: McGee/McGhee etc
Hello,
Finally got back to post a reply.
Thank you for the response Sarah, and on the d.certf. John BRENNAN (father of James BRENNAN m. to Janett McGEE) was a stonemason and Ann JAMIESON was written down as his mother. As I said another rellie. mentioned that there was a Ann McNAMARA involved somewhere. Maybe she was Johns' first wife (?), and where would be the best place to check on census etc.
Thank you again, to all, who often go out of their way to help others, it's truly what keeps me looking. Hopefully one day I may be able to help someone too.

Hello ian and ![TS welcome [TS_welcome]](./images/smilies/TS_welcome.png)
I see Jacquie hasn't been on the forum since August 2008, but if you send her a PM (button either under or next to one of her posts, depending on which board style you are using) she should get an email notification if she has kept the same email address. I'm sure she would be thrilled to make contact with you!
All the best,
Sarah
