What next .....

Managed to find Katie Hyslop today when I was at PC.

She married Peter Dewar in 1916 then they both promptly disappeared.

I can't find any children for them, or any death certs, so I have to assume they left Scotland to live else where.

What's my next step to try and find them? I'm stumped.
Beveridge, Bonnar, Burns,Candlin, Colquhoun, Dewar,Graham,Hislop,Jackson & Robertson.

Stumped's a word that is not allowed on TalkingScot :wink:

If they don't turn up using all the dodges for alternative spellings its possible that they left the country but 1916 was not a good time to up stakes and go. In the middle of a war they probably moved down south so you might have to start searching in England & Wales rather than overseas.

Can't help with that. All mine stayed at home.
Lots of useful help elsewhere on the site though.

I don't think they are far away.

Can I have the benefit of someones experience please.

I haven't a clue where to start of this one, no idea where they went after they married in 1916.

Most of the English sites are split up into counties, would I have to go through them all? Assuming they stayed in the UK and not abroad.

Hi Miss Poohs

Have you used the research facilities at NRH (or Park Circus now, for that matter as they have a link into DIGROS), whereby, after 1929 (??) it's possible to see the mother's maiden name in the birth indexes (separate male and female indexes); and, similarly, in the post 1973 death indexes?

Hi David, I was at PC yesterday - and spent most of my time looking there looking for Katie.

Once I found their marriage I started looking for birth cert for any children, both male and female, I found nothing.

Then I looked for death certs and again found nothing, so I have to assume they left Scotland after their marriage.

No idea where they went.
