Hi, can anybody help. Looking for sister of my granny. Mary elizabeth Egan. In 1881/91, she lived with her parants, John and Mary Egan in deptford, london. On the census return it states that she was bord Glasgow in 1874. I have searched uk births and cannot find her, so i presume she must have been born in Scotland.

If you have searched UK that would include Scotland...or do you really mean births for England and Wales only?

Have you tried tried a search on Scotland People? You can search for free - you only have to pay to see the results, but you can usually find out if there are are any likely records.

Hi Iomand

There are two likely looking births I can see on SP - have you checked these? Personally I'd go for the 1873 one - she is the more likley to be aged 7 in 1881, but I've not checked it so I don't know for sure.

1. 1873 EGAN MARY F HOLYTOWN /LANARK
2. 1875 EGAN MARY F CAMLACHIE GLASGOW CITY/LANARK

1881
John EGAN Head M Male 35 Ireland Genl Lab
Mary EGAN Wife M Female 32 Scarborough, York, England Charwoman
Mary Elizabeth EGAN Daur Female 7 Glasgow, Scotland Scholar
John Richd. EGAN Son Male 1 Deptford, Kent, England

The 1874 birth year above is just a guess arrived at by LDS form the age given at the time of census - always best to search on ages including a little extra each way.
