Parents.....

Post by Elizabeth » Mon Jul 17, 2006 7:46 am

Does anyone know who the parents of James Hogg were. He was married to Jannet Paterson on 9-5-1756 (probably in Cromarty!)

I haven't got a year od birth for him, but I know one of his sons was James Hogg, born 1756 in Cromarty, and his wife was ------ Hood, (possibly Katherine.)

Have you looked at the OPR for a birth? I would look to see if the OPR films are avaiable to view anywhere near you.
Trawling through them often leads to little gems-I was able to on Sat at my LDS FHC confirm the illegitamcy of an ancestor & then as a bonus discover another son to the same Mother but different Father-I had no idea she had had any other children & I also found what is probably her parents & two sisters their marriages & offspring!!
The OPR's are variable in their information.I was looking at St.Quivock's in Ayr & on the film was the Parish of Newton-how I wish my ancestors were born there! Such detailed info including Death Entries-causes of Death often relationships etc.

Hi Joette,
No, I haven't looked at the OPR. To tell the truth, I don't know what that is.
I find it a bit difficult to go out as my husband is ill and hasn't been very well recently. I really don't like leaving him on his own.

It was good of you to give me the information though, and I do appreciate it.

Regards

Elizabeth

The OPR are the Old Parish Records/Registers & are aviable to view on-line at http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk.The info is variable & that is why I recommended visiting a FHC to view the film.
I am sorry that your husband is unwell it must be a worrying time for you.

Hi all
Only the index for the OPRs is available to search on the Scotlands People web site. At least by searching these online you can find out if there is an entry for someone you are looking for. Although there is work in progress to have the OPR pages available to download they are not yet online.

There is some information about OPRs here:

Best wishes
