Hello,
I am looking for information on Isabella McDonald and James Shaw who married in Duffus, 1783. I have no birth or death details for either of them, no names of parents, no idea of profession and no hope of getting up to Moray, or even Aberdeen, in the near future so I am relying on someone's kindness and good nature to help with this one.
All I know is that they had a son, also James Shaw, born in 1788, in Duffus and that he married Margaret Forsyth ( the queries on this line will come later). I imagine they will have had more than one offspring.
If anyone can help point me in the right direction with either of these two families I should be enormously grateful.
Thanks,
Jen
This heat is unnatural - I believe it has even reached Aberdeen!

Hello Jen
I started with their children and found on IGI
International Genealogical Index
Batch no - C111312
JAMES SHAW - Male Christening: 18 AUG 1788 Duffus, Moray, Scotland
JANE SHAW - Female Christening: 21 MAR 1784 Duffus, Moray, Scotland
JEAN SHAW - Female Christening: 26 SEP 1790 Duffus, Moray, Scotland
ISOBEL SHAW - Female Christening: 02 APR 1786 Duffus, Moray, Scotland
Possible births for their father are:
JAMES SHAW -
Christening: 04 OCT 1753 Duffus, Moray, Scotland
Father: CHARLES SHAW
Mother: JANET MCDONALD
.JAMES SHAW -
Christening: 1755 Duffus, Moray, Scotland
Father: CHARLES SHAW
Mother: JANNET MCDONALD
JAMES SHAW
Christening: 03 DEC 1758 Duffus, Moray, Scotland
Father: JAMES SHAW
Mother: JEAN LEAL
Provided he was actually from Duffus.
The only Isabella McDonald to fit her likely age from Duffus is:
ISABEL MCDONALD –
Christening: 16 AUG 1753 Duffus, Moray, Scotland
Father: JAMES MCDONALD
Mother: BARBARA FLET
To explore these further you would have to hope that the OPR has some additional detail which would help.

Thank you Russell,
After I posted my first message, I realised that I hadn't actually checked the Family Search site for these people - extremely stupid of me I know but for some reason, although I always do it for my English ancestors, I tend to stick to Scotland's People for the Scots ones and hadn't had any joy there so assumed there was nothing to be had online. It must be the heat affecting my brain.
Anyway, the result was that I had found most of what you have sent me, though I hadn't done the offspring so that's very helpful.
Now I have to work out some way of deciding which of the two potential sets of parents for James Shaw is the most likely. I am tempted by the James Shaw/ Jean Leal option simply because of there being a daughter named Jean whereas there doesn't seem to be a Janet amongst them. (Though I believe that Jane, Janet and Jean are fairly interchangeable names)
Anyway, I shall carry on digging and hopefully something positive will emerge.
Thanks again,
Jen
