IRVINE family from Irvine Ayrshire.....

Post by deby » Wed Jul 19, 2006 3:43 pm

does any one have ANY info on
GEORGE IRVINE married a 1) SARAH COCHRANE and 2)possibly a JESSIE ?
1)marriage was 30-5-1913 at Hilltown, Co Down.

george and sarah had ELLEN IRVINE b 6-12-1917 (my deceased Grandmother), WILLIAM GEORGE IRVINE,
ELLEN WAS MARRIED 10-2-1940 to GEORGE CUMMINGS, and on marriage cert it says sarah deceased

but there was also 2 other sisters (half) MARGARET LYNN IRVINE B:1931 and CHARLOTTE IRVINE died at 10 months As you can tell there is 14 years between ellen and margaret

the address on the MC of ellens says residentual was 3 church street Irvine Ayrshire. when i looked it up it now looks like it is a church

ANY info at all would be great!!!

is Hilltown Co. down in scotland or Ireland?

thanks

Hi deby

County Down is in Northern Ireland. And just to double check I searched the Scottish marriages for that year and there was no entry for a George IRVINE to anyone.

My gazetteer lists Hilltown as a village in the southern part of the county located 8 miles ENE of Newry. Hope this helps!

Best wishes
Jean

I appoligise about the names that i had entered
as these are my direct relatives i was told that the last family mentioned, all 4 were killed in a car accident in 1983 i havent put in any details as yet as i have no copies of death certificates at this time. i appreciate your concern. same as the William mentioned the Elizabeth was deceased when i was there prio to 1976 and william died sometime between 1976 and before my grandmother ELLEN died in 1996 in australia although i have just noticed that i hadnt put in her death date i will correct that staraight away

Hi deb
No problem. It is always a difficult area when discussing family histories because inevitably some of what all of us know about our familes is quite recent.

On forum we tend to steer clear of mentioning names, dates and locations of any people who might be living or have recently died as it seems like a bit of an invasion of their or their family's privacy. We all know what it is like though - sometimes we get so tied up in the family history angle that we tend to forget that some of the names in our trees are actual real living people! Maybe it is something to do with spending so much time with the dead....

Best wishes
Lesley
