1841 Census Edinburgh.....

Post by angel » Tue Mar 29, 2005 3:45 pm

Hi

Does anyone have access to the 1841 census of Edinburgh? I am looking for two brothers John and Thomas Waters. Thomas would be age 8 and John would be age 15 and possibly an apprentice ships carpender as thai was his occupation.

Heather

If you go to the following site and follow the link you can look up the census yourself. http://freecen.rootsweb.com/

There is a family with John aged 22 and Thomas aged 6 and the rest of the family. it's the only Thomas Waters in Midlothian.

Hope this helps
Burns, Quinn - Glasgow, N.Ireland
McLeod, Mackay, Nicholson, McNeil - Skye
James, McLeod, Sinclair, Smith - Renton
Davidson,Adie, Gibb - Aberdeen
Jolly Wishart - Angus
Usher - Newcastle
Mullen, Roe - Dublin
O'Donnell - Ireland, Alexandria

Hi Heather
Also on the Freecen site is a Walters family at Anchorfield, Newhaven (North Leith) ( perfect recruiting ground for a ships carpenter ?) with ages which match for John and Thomas. If you know the rest of the ages / names of the household , you might be able to check if this is them "misspelt".

Happy hunting

Hi Sally

Thanks for the info it could be possible as the name Waters is often spelt with two T's and it could be eqasliy transcribed into Walters. I will keep this one in mind when searching.

Many thanks
