Hi Margaret

I looked on SP 1841 Census for a Magaret McNab in Airdie, couldn't find one. The only Margaret Orr in Airdie, in 1841 is a child.

If she died before 1855, she will not be on SP, as they don't have death records before that.

Have you yourself tried looking on SP?

Regards

Sheila

Hi folks,
This from the useful LFHS 1851 census CD name index - no more details.
--
1851 census 651 (645) Ed 20 p 32 (New Monkland)
Robert McNAB, 40, b Dunfermline, FIF
Mary (DICK), 45, b Inverkeithing, FIF
Jon McNAB, 13, b Aberdour, FIF
James McNAB, 12, b Aberdour, FIF
Ephmy McNAB, 9, b - no entry
Robert McNAB, 7, b Dunfermline
William McNAB, 5, b Airdrie, LKS
Margaret McNAB, 1, b - no entry
--
If the children's birthplaces are correct, then Robert & Margaret Orr might be in Fife 1841.

Hi all
I was trying not to get too interested in Mary Dick as this seemed to be west of Scotland based, but the wee detour to that particular part of Fife has perked me up!

I seems Mary Dick, wife of Robert McNab worker in Iron works, died in 1886 in Chapelhall (Holytown, Lanark) aged 80 - I take it Robert died after this date?

Can't fit her in with the Dick families I know of...yet!

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Margaret
I'm thinking it looks like your Margaret died in Fife between 1841- 1850 (and if young Robert is hers, this makes it between 1843-50)
Robert senior married again in 1850:

ROBERT MC NAB
Marriages:
Spouse: MARY DICK Family
Marriage: 10 JUN 1850 Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland

However, there is no sign that I can see of Mgt McNabb or Orr in the Fife Death Index CD or in the South Fife MIs for Aberdour (or Inverkeithing or Dunfermline).

Best wishes
Lesley

From the IGI, an extract - I'd think this one is a strong contender, looking at the order of her children's names and the parents' names here:

MARGARET ORE
Female
Event(s):
Birth: 14 AUG 1810
Christening: 19 AUG 1810 Carnbee, Fife, Scotland
Father: JAMES ORE
Mother: EUPHEMIA JERVIS

Hi LesleyB and Jack. youve done again. how can I thank you. Lesley I think your right about Margaret . My poblems been I had no idea they came from Fife. so have spent the last 2 yrs on and off looking for margaret. Have now checked with SP again. Robert died in 1888.age 77. at
holytown. I found 2 marriages for him to Mary Dick. one 1/5/1850 at New Monkland, the second 10/6/1850 at Dunfermline. if its any help Lesley. on 1881 census. it states Mary was born in [Culross perth.] on the 1851 census
it states Jean Dick was a boarder age 38. from Fife. [A point of interest]
on Roberts death cert it says his father was John. mothers name not known. never heard of that before? could someone tell me what you mean
by MIs. where can I buy discs from. and what does Freecen mean. I like to say this is a hobbie. but Im afraid its becoming more an obsession :D many thanks once more. cheers. margaret

Hi Margaret
could someone tell me what you mean
by MIs. where can I buy discs from.
MIs = monumental inscriptions - the stuff written on grave stones, some of which has been recorded & put in booklets. See:
http://www.scotsgenealogy.com/acatalog/ ... tions.html
and Fife FHS has put together a disc which combines some of the pre 1855 MIs with some of the death data from the Old Parish Registers. It is not a complete record of all deaths in Fife pre-1855 (now that would be something!! ) Check out http://www.fifefhs.org/ for info on their publications.
and what does Freecen mean
Freecen is a web site which aims to provide a "free-to-view" online searchable database of the 19th century UK census returns.
see:
www.freecen.org.uk

Best wishes

Margaret Orr/Robert McNab

Post by bethsam » Thu Aug 17, 2006 9:39 pm

Hi Margaret

This week I've discoved new information regarding Robert McNab and Margaret Orr, my Great Great Great Grandparents. It only took 3 years! The problem was not knowing he remarried straight after his last child was born. I discounted the Robert and Mary in Holytown census of 1851. I am a descendant of Robert and Margaret's youngest daughter Margaret born 1849 who married William McMurdie also known as Mills. I've seen your posts here and in another site using my new found information and there can be no doubt we are talking about the same family.

Please get in touch to swap information.
