I have previously had problems ( still unresolved ) with 2 Alexander Honeymans born and living at the same time in Larbert.
I now have a similar problem with the next generation !
I have Alexander Honeyman - born 03/01/1840,parents Alexander Honeyman & Janet McGrouther - he is with his parents in 1841,1851, & 1861 and is then lost.
Also - Alexander Honeyman - age 9 in 1861 census living with his grandmother Ann Bauchop, can't find him in 1871 Census
Then it gets complicated !
Alexander age 21 marries Mary Finlayson in 1873 and gives his parents as Alexander & Janet McGrouther - however when he dies in 1925 at age 73 , his son gives his parents as John Honeyman & Mary Bauchop
I can understand wrong information being given on a death certificate - but I feel that the marriage details are the ones that are wrong and the DC makes more sense !
I would dearly love to connect these 2 families - and having both sets mentioned convinces me that I am right - but where do I go next ?
They all lived in Larbert - I have been to Larbert Churchyard and only found the ones that I cannot claim. I still have plans to visit Stenhousemuir Graveyard , but until then can anyone help ?

Hi Morag:
Have you tried the IGI? http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... search.asp
There are several Alexander Honeyman references associated with Larbert, several of them overlapping in time frames and going back into 1700s.
I wasn't able to find reference to Mary Bauchop and John Honeyman, but there was Mary Foggo and John Honeyman.

Thank you for your thoughts but I have already checked out these people.
Alexander Honeyman and Janet McGrouther are my direct line and there seems to be lots of overlapping Alexanders in each generation ! As it is a fairly small group living in a small village (Larbert ) they have to be connected but blowed if I can find where !

Nothing positive just educated guesswork.
I reckon that NEITHER sets of parents are correct for Alexander born about 1852.
His father MAY have been a Honeyman but I think he was born on the wrong side of the sheets to Ellen Bauchop, Ann's daughter.
Ellen had at least three children out of wedlock, a daughter, Ann, who married Robert Crawford and another daugher who produced Janet Douglas about 1865. In 1871, Ellen is staying with SON Alexander Iron Moulder (age a bit out) and grandgaughter Janet Douglas (no birth record under B*chop* or Douglas). Ellen's death (she was recorded as single) was reported by Robert Crawford son-in-law.
Alexander who married Mary couldn't have been Alexander & Janet McGrouther's son unless he lopped off about 12 years, however the West Carron address ties in with Alexender who died in 1872 at West Carron.
However, Alexender COULD be the result of a dalliance between Alexander & Janet McGrouther's son, Alexander, born 1825 and Ellen Beachop just before Alex married Janet Sharp in May 1851.
Pure speculation of course but a possibility.

Hi Morag
Have you tried this site? http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tomp.pater ... ge364.html
Tom has done the Falkirk area census's and they are extremely accurate but he also has alot of other info from the larbert area in there. I put the link to a page that should be relevant, but there is also the 1851 census etc. Hope it helps

Hi Andy
Your musings are very interesting and do make a lot of sense. The first born daughter of Alexander & Mary Finlayson was called Helen and they seem to have followed a reverse naming pattern - so definately one to follow ! It would also explain a lack of information about John Honeyman & Mary Bauchop.
My main problem is the parents of Alexander husband of Janet McGrouther - it could well be a similar situation as I think his DC has made-up William and Elizabeth Irvine as parents !
My direct line is through Alexander & Janet McGrouther's daughter Margaret.
Lainey
Thank you for the link - it is one I use often - others may be interested in the Deaths list Tom has - I have filled in lots of blanks with that.
Thank you both for your help

Hi
After reading Andy's post.
I think Mary's husband, Alexander is a Sharp.
Though I am glad we have an edit button oan here.
I had a look at the Honeymans, and found out a few things.
IT IS COMPLICATED
Just wondered if you had ever looked at a Honeymoon spelling?

It occured to me that it might be the Grandparents that were put in the wedding certificate of Alexander and Mary Finlayson.
Alexander and JANET McGROWTHER.
Just a thought, but you could work out the dates and see if that is a possibility.
Alexander born in 1840, I think, is the son of Janet McGrowther and an uncle of Mary Finlayson's man.
Now, to add mer oill oan the waters.
Alexander married to Janet McG.
His parents were Alexander and Christian Bauld,
Also noted that an Ann Bauchope died in Larbert in 1869, aged 87.

Just following on from Davie's footnote about the Alexander who married Christina Bauld . . . .
Alexander Honeyman, born 25th November 1800, died 22nd May 1861
Christina Bauld, born 17th October 1802, died 17th October 1874
Son John died at Agra, East India aged 30 years (no date)
Sons?
David Honeyman died 20th July 1883 aged 33 years
William Honeyman died 16th September 1899 aged 71 years.
Inscription from stone in Larbert Old Parish Churchyard.

Thank you all for your help here - and yes the Honeymoons are mine !
This is what I have
Alexander Honeyman married to Janet McGrouther was born abt 1809, his parents were allegedly William & Elizabeth Irvine who I think are figments of someone's imagination and Alexander married to Christian Bauld was born 25/11/1800 - so I assume that they are cousins. Alexander ( m. to Christian ) lists his parents as Alexander & Jean Miller - who did exist and had children
Alexander married to Janet Sharp is a son of Alexander & Christian
They are the Honeymoons that Davie found in 1881 - William Hodge 3m was illegitimate - who knows where the adopted Jessie McIntosh came from !
The Janet Honeymoon age 74 with son William is Janet McGrouther
I don't think that Alexander & Janet McGrouther are the grandparents of Alexander married to Mary Finlayson - their son Alexander was born in 1840 so ( hopefully!) did not father a chid at age 12 - although it could have been their son William I suppose. I think it does confirm that there is a connection between the 2 families - I just have to prove exactly what.
I have seen the gravestone in Larbert - it helped to put some of this together.
I am going mad with all the Alexander Honeyman - of all generations - and then I come to their daughter Margaret whose in laws William Nicol & Grace McPherson have also vanished into thin air - but that is another story !
I will keep going and am grateful for the help - I didn't realise that this lot were into having so many illegtimate children - maybe my Granny's family were right when they thought she married beneath her - her family came from a long line of Free Church ministers !
