My wee thocht is it was a nickname
I have an Amelia, Wilhelmenia or Mona, depending on census, marriage or birth of child.

You could be right there Davie with the nickname/pet name thing, because the only Mona I know doesn't have a name that relates to any of the suggestions so far!!!

Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

And do you know where the name originated for your family.

I have never seen it on any of my numerous researches as given name in Scotland.
