Hi
I need help in tracing my husbands side of the family they came from Petty Inverness-shire. I need ifo on Alexander Lawson B. about 1783 and married Janet McIntosh 3 January 1803 in Petty. They Had two children - Mary b. 11 November 1803 and John b. 1 October c. 3 October 1806.
That is all that I have on both of them. I know what happeded to John and his desendents it is the parent that I have the trouble with so help would be great.

As the information you have on Alexander Lawson comes from a members submission on the LDS I would take the place of birth of Petty ,Inverness with a grain of salt.Indeed ,if you make a search of the OPR on Scotland's People you will find only one entry for an Alexander Lawson in 1783 and it is in Dunbar.You will then have to decide if the parents listed are the parents of your Alexander or if he may be one of the ones born in the preceeding or following years.However ,if this is indeed your Alexander you can then either order a copy of the record from SP or go back to the LDS and see where the parents names take you.Let me know how you get on.

I have checked the censuses for Moray as the family came down here and it says that they were born Petty Inverness-shire. John was born there and he also married in Petty [ I have that from SP] and there children were born in Burghead Moray. I also got their marrigae From SP but there was no image so I couldn't get the parents.

Hi Heather,I went back to SP and entered Alexander Lawson in the parish of Petty and there is only 1.Details are Alexander Lawson born 21 Feb 1838 in the parish of Petty Parents John Lawson and Elspet Johnstone.As this was 35 years after Alexander's marriage ....As I said before take the place names with a grain of salt I could tell you of many ancestors who have put their place of birth as somewhere only to find the records elsewhere .

It looks like I have a mystery on my hands as I have got the family from SP and from Moray Heritage. SP tells me that they were from Petty and this is what my husbands family told him and the censuses at Moray tell me the children were born Burghead. They say we should ask the family for details but then there could be mistakes made ther as well. Thanks for looking.
