Hi
Well I've been to Edinburgh, and spent a fruitful afternoon in the records office - however I have not found William McGreogor's birth or marriage record, yet I have found the parish records of the children John McGregor and Janet Jenkin (Junkin). Any ideas as to where to go from here? What else should I try, I still have a film held at my local Mormon centre for the St.Ninians parish for that time period
Many thanks
Fiona

Hi Fiona
I might be stating the obvious, and you might already have thought about it, but what about mis-spellings of the surname? The accent in rural parts can be quite strong, so it could have been mis-recorded. Mac/McGrigor or another variant. Are you sure of the parish of birth?
Another question might also be the name McGregor itself. For quite a while it was forbidden to use the name McGregor, as a result of Rob Roy McGregor's exploits people with the name were forced to change. I'm not sure of the time frame for that, but a search on Google might throw up something.
