Gauld & Wilson, Greenock.....

Post by tishgibbons » Fri Sep 01, 2006 9:14 pm

Hi Folks,

I had just about given up on Genes Reunited when I got a message yesterday that is an actual connection to my family - thanks to Peter if you are also a frequenter of TS!!!. Anyway, he tells me that one of my 'long losts', Archibald Gauld from Glenbuchat, Aberdeenshire, married Esther Wilson (b. 1895) Greenock. They married and lived in Greenock and had at least one child, Agnes C. Gauld. I'm currently at odds with my credit card - or it is with me!) so I haven't gone to SP with this yet. Thought I'd see if this sounds familiar to anyone here first? ( I know, I'm a cheapskate!)

Hi Tish,

Glad you didn't give up on genesreunited.

I have been met five relatives, all with connections to my Bonnars from Greenock through genesreunited.

Regards,

Ina

Hey Tish

Nothing wrong with being careful with the dosh! Hope your lead works out - I'd have looked it up for you on SP, but I'm in the crazy situation of having 60 odd credits lying expired on SP and since I've got nothing organised to look up, I don't want to buy another six quid's worth!

We wait to hear when you and the credit card are on better terms!

Lassies - just an evil thought! As my blokes (hubbie & son) have abandoned me to go the Ireland vs Germany match in Stuttgart, I might just think of a way to make THEM pay SP

... and it worked...don't ask!!!

I found Archibald Gauld married Esther Wilson in February 1927. Details illegible and I can't remember how to upload an image from SP to here so it will have to wait until tomorrow when I'm a awake (and sober!). Also found Archibald's death in 1953 - he was 55 and a bus driver and hthey lived at 30 East hamilton Street, Greenock and they did indeed have a daughter, who witnessed his death, called Agnes C. Gauld! Not bad for a night's thievin'!!

Yes Cyn,

but it's the wee hours here and I've been working all night on a work-related thing for Wednesday and I'm exhausted! Once things settle I promise to send you what I have - not a lot but maybe we can make connections or share info. Were your Gaulds originally from Aberdeenshire - mine originated in Glenbuchat.

Regards

Cyn,

sorry I forgot to get back to you - have been under serious pressure at work and away a lot. anyway, my first Gauld connection is as follows:-

My g.g. granfather's niece, Jane Wilson, b.1868 Strathdon married one William Gauld of Glenbuchat in 1895. They had the following children

Margaret Jane b.1902 Glenbuchat, m. John Stephen in Skene in 1926. No further info

Thomas Victor Gauld b.1897 Glenbuchat m. Isabella Ann Garden in 1922 in Echt. They had at least 2 children, also called Thomas Victor and Isabella Ann, both of whom died tragically young - Thomas Victor in 1951 and Isabella Ann in 1946, a frctured skull and TB respectively. Isabella Ann was married to James Ramsay McDonald.

William Gauld b. 1896 Glenbuchat - no further info

Archibald Gauld b. 1898 Glenbuchat m. 1927 Esther Wilson in Greenock and they have one daughter, Agnes C. Gauld.

The famly moved to Skene where both Jane and William died. The younger William was present but no sign of any marriage for him yet.

If any of this looks familiar I can root out some information on the elder William Gauld's family in Glenbuchat.

Again, sorry for the delay.
