Annals Of Fenwick

Post by And It Makes Me Shine » Thu Sep 07, 2006 2:26 pm

Looking for some pointers on this. Decided to Google my 5th Great Grandfather and found an excert from the Annals of Fenwick.

"1844
On Monday, 5th February took farewell of this earth, John Anderson, better known by the name of the “Auld Smith of Fenwick,” in the 82nd year of his age.

He was the eldest son of Gabriel Anderson, blacksmith in the smithy of Doghillock, the site of which is now occupied by the house built by Andrew Fulton, which smithy had been possessed without interruption by the Anderson family upwards of four hundred years."

Gabriel is my GGGGG Grandfather. I couldn't find anything else on the web. Any help appreciated

Hi,
Don't know if this is of any help.
The full 1841 census for Fenwick is on the Net somewhere.
I am certain it is on one of the Family History sites.
However, I cannot trace it at the moment
I have it downloaded in a zip file.
If I cannot find it on the Web, I can send the files as I have them.
There are three Gabriel Andersons
Aged 50
Same family aged 8
and a 3 year old.
There is also a John aged 78.

Cheers guys I have went through the masses of info on fenwick and managed to get the Andersons back to 1685. This book though is really interesting because it looks like a 40 year history of the village with tittle tattle included. I have only found 3 paragraphs on the net so far and from that I have found out the nickname and description of my GGGG grandfathers brother and that the Andersons lived at the same place from the 1400-1800's. If thats what I found for a couple of paragraphs then I am assuming I would find alot more from the book.
