wedding in Inverness

Post by frances » Tue Sep 19, 2006 3:55 pm

Our daughter Jennifer was recently married in Inverness where she has worked for some years. A wonderful day was had by all our family and friends who had travelled from all corners of the world for the big day.
Canada, India, South Africa, Newzealand, Switzerland and England.

While searching my husband's family tree I discovered that his GG grandfather Duncan MacRae was born in Petty in the 1850s . After travelling around the world Jennifer settled not 3 miles away from Petty so it seemed almost meant that she should be married not far from where her GG grandfather was born.

Still searching for Duncan's parents(Donald/David MacRae and Sarah McPherson's wedding .

Hi Frances
I think there is something very satisfying in those coincidences , which, once you know a little background, turn out to be more siginificant than you originally thought.

Certainly it gives pause for thought. I sometimes think that many things we do, are, in a strange way, not always independent decisions as we tend to think they are, but are coloured, or influenced (inevitably?) by the genetic patterns present in our inherited make-up.

Well, that's your heavy thought for the day!!
Best wishes
Lesley

Good thing I read that early in the day, so I could understand it :!:

I remember an author using the idea of 'collective memory', to explain some of our preferences and choices; saying that eventhough we did not have first-hand knowledge, we picked up 'memories' from pictures or related experiences, thoughts and tales told within families.

Like you Lesley, I too, think we inherit more than just our physical attibutes. Maybe our 'inherited or genetic memory' is part of what we refer to as soul (secular or otherwise) :D

Congratulations Frances on the aquistion of a new family member. May Jennifer and her spouse have many happy years in her 'chosen' place :!:

I remember reading an article somewhere on 'deja vu'.

The writer was convinced that not only do we inherit genetic similarities for our ancestors, but we also inherit memories and that the feeling of 'deja-vu' or 'already seen' can be explained as exactly that. Maybe not seen by the person experiencing this spooky feeling, but passed down as a memory.

Makes you wonder ...... :-s
