Hi Tracey,
Welcome to TalkingScot.
The online IGI shows their marriage (or at least the calling of the banns) to have been in Barony Parish (loosely speaking, outer Glasgow). The online IGI only shows two children - Elizabeth of 12-Jul-1858 and Janet of 06-Jan-1861, both in the High Church registration district of Glasgow. I guess there will be some pre-1855 children whose births or baptisms were not recorded in the OPRs, and hence do not appear on the IGI.
I hope that the 1842 marriage record gives you some new information, as most OPRs give very little information. The majority of the OPRs give something like John Brown and Margaret Green, both of this parish, gave their names for marriage on 18th July 1842. If you get one that gives more information about the parentage of the couple, then consider that as a bonus.
A search on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for the death certificates of Samuel and Catherine is probably your best way of finding their parents.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi Tracey
Well worth the credits on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk , as you'll find death register entries for both Catherine and Samuel, giving the names of the parents, - in the case of Catherine her son is the infomant, and in the case of Samuel the informant was the same son.
The technique is to search first for Catherine's death register entry, using both surnames, and wildcrads, - M*cros*n for the married surname. This then shows you if she was married or widowed at the time of her death.
That also gives you a start year or an end year for the death of Samuel, and it would be reasonable, to start off with, to assume that he was of like age.
Looks like you have soom good genes from this couple given their ages at death.
David
PS You'll easily find a death of a daughter of Samuel and Catherine named after his mother.......
