[Gordon] Book Project

Post by Christian Kraemer » Sun Oct 08, 2006 8:48 pm

Hello everybody,

this is my first posting on this forum - just to get out of this User Group for those without any postings! Okay no ... just kidding.
I have absolutely no Scottish roots, I am probably as German as they come but I own a kilt and I wear it! Now to the serious part:

At the moment I am collecting material for a book I am writing [in German] about the Gordon Setter [aka The Scottish Setter].
Named after Alexander 4th Duke of Gordon. I got pretty much all the material collected that is necessary. My focus is on the German history of the breed anyway, but the book will have a few chapters on those good old days.

To get a better understanding of that era I try to get my hand on books [non fictional, fictional] that cover those years [let's say 1780 til 1900].
They should cover Scottish Clans, Hunting Grouse on Scottish Moors, Shooting over Pointing Dogs, Sporting in general, etc.

I already got "The Idstone Papers".

Any suggestions? Ideas?

Thanks a lot

Christian

Hi Christian

Nothing to do with your actual request but at my daughter's wedding recently the father of the bride (Me), the groom and the best man were all resplendant in kilts.
The groom is Belgian but has a trace of Scottish roots and wore his Fleming tartan. His own rig-out too!.
The Best man is Wisconsin American but he discovered a family link to Taggart and Ross so he was entitled to wear his (Unfortunately I couldn't find his proper tartan at short notice.
I had to make do with what fitted me since they had no McKenzie or Anderson made-up. Maybe another time.
There were McGregor, MacKinnon.McDonald tartans in evidence too.

At another wedding recently there was a pin-stripe kilt and a couple of black ones too.
Scotland doesn't have a monopoly on kilts either.
Some of the Irish ones look terrific.

It is not that I look too much like a Scot when I wear it ... :-
