Andrew Young & Wife Mary left Scotland 1835-1838 for Can
Hi
I am in Canada and trying to find the link from here back to Scotland. Here is the information I have relating to the Youngs here.
Andrew Young born: March or April 1780 Scotland
married
Mary (?) born: 1805 Scotland
children:
Hugh Young b: March 1827 Scotland
John Young b: 1831 or 1836 Scotland
Agnes Young b: 1832 Scotland
Margaret Young b: 1833 - 1834 Scotland
The family then set sail for Canada around the time of 1836-1838 since I have a record of the first child born in Canada birth Feb.1839 in New Brunswick Canada.
There were three more born here in Canada. Along side of these stones at the cemetery I found the names of William Young and Thomas Young but with only information regarding the death no information to who they were. I am guess that if they are related then they are brothers, cousin or nephew to Andrew and were already here in Canada or came with Andrew and his family.
Does any of this sound like a part of your family tree? if so then please email and I will share all information about the family here in Canada.
thank you

Also many references to birth of many Andrew Youngs about 1780 at: http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/
At http:scotlandspeople.gov.uk a check of the old parish registers lists one Andrew Young marrying Mary*within 2 years of the eldest birth, but poor results for the children. Chances are that they are not listed if not Church of Scotland. (and I stand to be corrected on this)

Hi Frances
thanks for the reply. I do have that same information but have not been able to confirm any of the marriages to my Andrew Young. I have tried and spent some money at the Scotland people and have a few leads but again nothing really standing out at the fact that they are the couple I am looking for.
Census records were not available for before the time they left. Unless they left right after the first one being taken (that is available) which was 1837 is this correct? but my guess is they left sooner then that.
thanks

Hi CG
1837 is a date which is not significant in Scottish records, but is for English records - it is the year that registration was introduced in England - for the register of births, deaths & marriages.
Best wishes
Lesley
The first census in Scotland to mention names for all of the country was 1841. There are some (very limited ) areas for which names exist prior to that, but most census material prior to that just are "head-counts". So unfortunately, if your Youngs left before this date they will probably not be mentioned in a census record.Census records were not available for before the time they left. Unless they left right after the first one being taken (that is available) which was 1837 is this correct?

Hi Canadian Girl,
Have a look at your local library for a set of books by Donald Whyte called A Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to Canada before Confederation (1867) . You may be lucky and find your long losts on the lists .Sometimes its just the names of the parents and a number of children and others there is a windfall of info on the family.Worth a try .
Happy Hunting,
HeatherH

Hi HeatherH
thanks for the tip about the books....I will make sure I add it to the list of books to look for when I am at the library.
There is a clue to the coming over here that when i first herd it I thought it would be easy or should I say easier to find them. The ship they were on was either ship wrecked or stranded of the East Coast of Canada. The family survived but with only the clothes they had and there lives and that is about it. I thought there would be somewhere a list of ship people that were helped when somthing like this happens or a list of ships. I did find one called ship wreckes and I had a look but it only gives the names of the ships no list of passengers.
thanks

Hi Canadian Girl:
Have you checked TS's AMERICAS forum below, for possible sources?
http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=20
I think you may need to begin to establish more details on the Canadian side before going back to Scotland.
Have you looked at any of the aids on:
http://automatedgenealogy.com/index.html
There, the 1871 Census for New Brunswick lists only 6 Youngs - 4, including Margaret - listed Sussex Div 1, Kings County, New Brunswick
in the province
Another good Canadian site is:
http://ist.uwaterloo.ca/~marj/genealogy
Then there is the Canadian government site:
http://www.collectionscanada.ca/genealo ... 002-e.html
If you'd like to PM me by clicking the box on the lower left corner of this message, perhaps I can give you some suggestions closer to home, as I am in Ontario as well.
Frances
