William McGregor b. approx 1800 St.Ninians, Stirling.....

Post by Fiona » Wed Oct 11, 2006 6:01 pm

Hi

I'm hitting walls with this William McGregor, spend yesterday afternoon pouring over St.Ninians parish records to try and find his birth/baptism, but to no avail. Can't find his marriage either have looked around 1832 when his first child was born, but nothing!

Details found so far are:-

1841 census
Stirling

William age 35 can be 35-39 in 1841 soap bolier on 'Shore' born in county, wife Eliza 30 (can be 30-34) NOT born in county
Margaret9, Janet 7, William 4, Elizabeth 8 months

1851 census
4 Cross Linlithgow

William 47 soap boiler born St Ninian's (as apparently also wife and all children)
Elisabeth 40, William 13, John 7, Margaret 19, Janet 16, Elisabeth 9

William died 16 April 1878 aged 78 (according to death certificate) of old age, attested by his son John, present. He was at 17 Friars Street and his wife apprently still alive. His parents are given as John McGregor weaver and janet Jenkins both deceased

Listed below are children of John McGregor and Janet Jenkin (Junkin), but not found William born around 1800

1. JOHN MC GREGOR - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 16 APR 1786 Saint Ninians, Stirling, Scotland CONFIRMED

2. ELIZABETH MC GREGOR - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 21 OCT 1782 Saint Ninians, Stirling, Scotland CONFIRMED

3. CATHRINE MC GREGOR - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 2/12/1780 Saint Ninians, Stirling, Scotland CONFIRMED

4. JANET MC GREGOR - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 26 JUL 1784 Saint Ninians, Stirling, Scotland CONFIRMED

Now if these are William's brother and sisters he was born an awful lot later than the last one; there would be 16 years between them, which doesn't ring true to me.

Apologies for the length of this posting, but would dearly love get some more details about William. Any ideas please?

Many thanks
Fiona
