Andrew and Janet Galloway Young married in Barony 1834?.....
I have a marriage record for the above but it says Jean...so not sure I have the right family.
On their daughters, Elizabeth Young marriage record on Nov. 4. 1859 her parents are listed as Andrew Young, weaver and Janet Galloway Young. This marriage took place in Calton at 13 Churley St. Elizabeth Young married John Cooper who said he was born in Ireland (but I do not know where). John's father was Samuel Cooper and a weaver, his Mom was Elizabeth Thomson Cooper.
witnesses to the marriage were James Barclay and Margaret Cooper.
John and Elizabeth had about 8 children, with only 4 surviving.
Ann (my Great Grandmother) 1869 New Kilpatrick
Helen 1873 New Kilpatrick
Samuel 1876 Milngavie
Andrew 1881 Milngavie
Any connections?

Hi Karen
Sorry I don't have any solid information for you, but I have found in my own family that Jane/Jean/Janet/Jenny can all be the same name.

Thanks Liz..yes I have heard that before. Seems this Janet born in 1819 had a sister named Jean born in 1811. Kinda why I am confused about the marriage record for a Jean Galloway and not Janet. Probably not the correct marriage record for my Andrew and Janet.
By the way I noticed you have Lang in your tree. I think I posted a message about James and Annie Savage. If not they were married in Milngavie in 1890. James was Irish. Annie was Annie Cooper. I know James was a Catholic but I don't think Annie was. Anyway the two witnesses they had at the wedding were a Francis Keary and a "Mary Jane Lang" any connections to you?
The wedding took place on May 9, 1890 at the Milngavie Roman Catholic Church (which is no longer there but I have a picture of it). Seems James was also living at Elizabeth's home at Allander Terrace in Milngavie. James worked at the waterworks (which I have been to and walked all around the grounds) and Annie the papermill (which is now long gone and the library is there).
Just wondered if you have Mary in .your family tree?

Sorry but I don't think my Langs are connected to you unfortunately ... my Langs are connected to the Balsillie family and hail from Pittenweem in Fife.
Best of luck with your searching.

I just recently found my grandmothers BC in 1892, in all her other certs she was Jessie, but her actual birth name was Janet. This also applied to my maternal grandmother who was always known as Jean/Jeannie but her birth name was Jane. So you have to be a bit creative when looking for those names mentioned above. There is a very good chance the cert you have found is her.
On Janets BC her mother was named Janet Anderson (ms Graham) but her name too was Janet. Oh and there were a lot of wains named Jean on my mothers side, including my sister, not realising grannies real name was Jane

Re: Andrew and Janet Galloway Young married in Barony 1834?
Hi Karen,
I'd suspicions this was your Andrew YOUNG, with Jean GALLOWAY, in the 1841 census,
and with a different wife (Catherine) in 1851, and then living apart from each other in 1861.
But wasn't entirely sure till i saw the 1862 Poor Relief record that tied everything together.
Andrew was possibly married 3 times.....
His original occupation seems to have been a miller, then a carter, a weaver, a packer (on his 1880 DC).
Maybe your Elizabeth's 1859 MC with mother as Janet was just a wee error, and should be Jean?
(her siblings MCs/DCs may help)
This looks very like Elizabeth with her parents & siblings in Well Street, Calton, Glasgow 1841.
And If so then mother Jean aged 27 looks to be born nearer to 1811, rather than 1819 (when sis Janet was born).

Re: Andrew and Janet Galloway Young married in Barony 1834?
Hi again Karen,
Seems both the girls got it wrong on their mother's forename...neither had JEAN.
Elizabeth COOPER m/s YOUNG - 1859 MC & 1921 DC has mother as JANET GALLOWAY.
Jane McCULLOCH m/s YOUNG - 1857 MC & 1898 DC has mother as MARGARET GALLOWAY.
--
Looks very much like Andrew YOUNG & Catherine WITHERS had split up by 1861.
Then Andrew & Lillias McCANCE meet up, maybe 1865 or earlier.
Andrew & Lillias were apart in 1871, but they do seem to be back together throughout most of the 1870s.
(and until he died in 1880)
Here's what appears to be their children - not sure if Andrew is father of all.
But he is to Ellen, Samuel, Lillias, and Mary at the very least.
--
JOHN YOUNG b ~1863 [surname from censuses, but looks like John McCANSH b. 14 JAN 1863, Bridgeton]
Possibly Lillias' son before meeting Andrew. BC has mother as widow Lillias STOREY m/s McCANSH.
ELLEN YOUNG - Birth: 30 NOV 1865 Bridgeton [died aged 6 on 29 Mar 1871]
SAMUEL YOUNG - Birth: 10 OCT 1869 Bridgeton
DAVID McCANSE - Birth: 14 JUN 1872 Bridgeton [so maybe not Andrew's son?]
LILLIAS YOUNG - Birth: 25 APR 1876 Bridgeton
MARY YOUNG - Birth: 4 FEB 1879, Bridgeton
[BCs of Ellen, Samuel, Lillias, Mary say parents Andrew & Lillias married 26 AUG 1865, Glasgow]
Can't see an 1865 marriage, but they did marry on 19 FEB 1880 [Andrew then dies 8 days later]

Your GGG-GF Andrew led quite an eventful life; and you've more cousins out there somewhere....
Jack
Seems both the girls got it wrong on their mother's forename...neither had JEAN.
Elizabeth COOPER m/s YOUNG - 1859 MC & 1921 DC has mother as JANET GALLOWAY.
Jane McCULLOCH m/s YOUNG - 1857 MC & 1898 DC has mother as MARGARET GALLOWAY.

JOHN YOUNG b ~1863 [surname from censuses, but looks like John McCANSH b. 14 JAN 1863, Bridgeton]
Possibly Lillias' son before meeting Andrew. BC has mother as widow Lillias STOREY m/s McCANSH.
ELLEN YOUNG - Birth: 30 NOV 1865 Bridgeton [died aged 6 on 29 Mar 1871]
SAMUEL YOUNG - Birth: 10 OCT 1869 Bridgeton
DAVID McCANSE - Birth: 14 JUN 1872 Bridgeton [so maybe not Andrew's son?]
LILLIAS YOUNG - Birth: 25 APR 1876 Bridgeton
MARY YOUNG - Birth: 4 FEB 1879, Bridgeton
[BCs of Ellen, Samuel, Lillias, Mary say parents Andrew & Lillias married 26 AUG 1865, Glasgow]
Can't see an 1865 marriage, but they did marry on 19 FEB 1880 [Andrew then dies 8 days later]
