Best Name Ever??

Hi

While researching for a friend I have just come across as a witness to a marriage in 1864 in Adrossan a female by the name of Snodgrass Hamilton (she appears to have been called after her uncle Snodgrass and after her granny's maiden name.) She must have been so grateful to her parents for this christening gift. I only hope old uncle Snodgrass had money.

I know she is female because she later marries a William Brown.

Although her surname is the same as the bride's, and her future husband's the same as the groom's I have not yet found a connection to my main quarries. I am determined to do so as I firmly believe that there is one and that the person whose tree I am researching deserves to have a Snodgrass Hamilton or Brown on it.

She has already acquired a family by the name of Grothenwell!

Can you beat that for an embarrassing name.

The possible nicknames for that one just don't bear thinking about

How about:

Horatio Nelson Trafalgar Hope?

Born Roxburgh, Scotland around 1806/07. No doubt the family were still celebrating the battle when he came along!

You'd think that with a name like that there would be others trying to find details but I've yet to find another Hope family member reasearchig my gggg grandmother and her brother with such a great name!

I like that one. As well as Snodgrass, I've just found a male with the first name Hope. He appears to have used it throughout his life. Maybe it was not considered a girlie name in those days.

Hi All,

The names in my family match the Scottish naming pattern until, I found "Inez Morning"

Is "Inez" a Scottish name or was she named after the milkman's wife?

P.S. Poor Inez,she was a twin to my great Aunt Mary Morning, born in Grafton ,Massachusetts and passed away the same day.

Hi Marilyn,

Chambers Dictionary lists Inez as a Spanish variation of Agnes.

Just last week in NRH a birth register entry showing the mother as "Thrassie MITCHELL", confirmed by her death register entry showing her as "Thrassy".

Hi all
Whilst reading though the Burgh records of Cupar recently I came across one Primrose Rhymer...male! He was Dean of Guild in Cupar in the late 1700s. His birth (Edinburgh) and marriage (Kinghorn Fife) appear to be on th IGI, both confirming his name and his gender....

I'd come across him before as a witness to a marriage, but had thought at the time that it must be a woman!

I havent come across many weird ones in my lines.

Weirdest one out of my lot would have to be Pringle Clark. Just made me think about the crisps.

I feel sorry for the person named Snodgrass.
