Could sks please explain where to begin when you are trying to trace two brothers and there are no clues to follow.
Hugh Ferguson born 1884 and George born 1887 Kilmarnock, Ayrshire
Too late for the IGI and both still there at 1901 census.
Checked ScotlandsPeople, marriage and death gave no result.
Have had good results earlier but stuck on this one.
Possible that they may have emigrated, but to where and when?

Have you found them in the 1891 census as well?
Instead of emigrating what if they served in the great war and were killed in action? If that is the case there would be no record of death on SP but you might find it on Scotlands People or the Commonwealth War Grave Commission Site.
http://www.cwgc.org/
National Archives Site with Medal Cards.

If they migrated then someone else may be able to provide a link to the site that gives records for emigration.

Not without the realms of possibility that they married after 1930& died after 1950 or have you searched at NRH?

Yes, they were both in 1891 census.
Checked the CWGC for both, proved negative.
Had a look at National Archives site, but without knowing regiment or service number not much chance of associating them with medal recipients.
Anyway, thanks for your advice.

Worth a try though. I know how difficult the medal cards can be to find a soldier. I have been trying to find my great grandfather who survived and served in the Argylls but there are so many others with the same name.
Anyways:
NRH = New Register House in Edinburgh
From there I believe that you can access post 1955 deaths and post 1935 marriages.

You would either need to find someone who could go to New Register House Edinburgh or Park Circus Glasgow on your behalf, or contact GROS directly:

Hi Scopeo
Apologies if I'm stating the obvious here, but I was having a look on SP and there seem to be 17 Hugh Fergus*ons who died between 1901 - 1955 whose birth was 5 years either side of 1884, there are 12 for 2yrs either side of 1884 - do you know for certain it is none of them?
32 Georges died 1901-1955 born 5 years either side of 1887, 13 born 1 year either side of 1887.
Best wishes
Lesley

FERGUSON missing brothers
Thanks again, Pandabean
For the NRH info. I know the difficulty with WWI info. I have the service number and medals given to my grandfather who was in the Highland Light Infantry. Someone went to the headquarters in Glasgow for me. During WWII they moved all the records for safekeeping and they were all lost due to bombing. If they had been left where they were they would have survived. "C'est la vie".
