Alan, thanks very much for your reply, fascinating to know more details about the history of the farm. Its sadly no longer a farm thou, just the house and a few buildings. Ideally if I could get any photos pre my grandfather. Will keep looking.

Hello Lee,

Unless a family member turns up you may have to dig through ScotlandsPeople records to get very far with this. It’s likely the name could be spelt either Louis or Lewis.

I couldn’t find anything in the newspapers I could be reasonably certain about except for this article from the Aberdeen Journal, Saturday, November 11, 1939.

We, the undermentioned Dairymen of Gardenstown, hereby announce that, from 12th November, the PRICE OF MILK WILL BE RAISED to 3d per pint.
JOHN HEPBURN, Knowhead.
LEWIS LITTLEJOHN, West Knowhead.
JOHN KILLOH, Findon.

Hope that helps,
Alan

A bit more later

Aberdeen journal, Saturday, September 10, 1938
A long list of contributors to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Mrs Lewis Littlejohn, West Knowehead, Gardenstown, Banff, Ward 6, £2.

Aberdeen Journal entries 1927 and 1932 advertising a calf for sale by Littlejohn, West Knowehead.

The valuation Rolls on SP have a Lewis Littlejohn farming at
KNOWHEAD ESTATE OF TROUP GAMRIE
in 1930, 1935 & 1940.

It can be seen here:

If you move the blue dot, you can see that Gardenstown has crept up and swallowed it!

Thanks Wilma, the information was a great help. The 1940's map was fascinating to look around. My grandma stayed at sunnyside farm on the map and went to clenterty school just below it. Her grandfather had clenterty farm too. She often speaks of a well she used to get water from and its marked on the map. I'm currently building a new house at finton farm gamrie for the farmer there. Fascinating area to be working in.

The views are wonderful from thereabouts - though I hate the Brae down to Gardenstown Harbour!
I'd love to be in Portsoy right now!

Unfortunately I’ve not come across photos of the farm...yet! I have a photo of my Great Grandparents but not on the farm.
