I have a marriage for William Jamieson to Elizabeth Robertson 31/12/1852 High Church Paisley. Please could someone look up 1861 census to see if there were any children.
Many thanks Barbara.

Hi Bonnie,
A parent search on the IGI gives 11 children. Going by the dates, they are not all of the same William Jamieson and Elizabeth Robertson. The ones that seem a fairly safe bet should be the 6 born in Paisley.
The 1871 census and the birth certificates on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk should be your next port of call. Another assumption is that William of 1858 died before July 1861, so a look at the death certificates may also be in order.
All the best,
Andrew Paterson

Hello again Jack,
I have taken your advice and had a look at the birth certificates of both William Jamieson 1858 & 1861 the address is the same, it is either 4 Millmeadow Street, Paisley, or Wellmeadow Street it is a little difficult to read the writing.
It is the right Jamieson Family, as I now have a copy of James senior death certificate, died August 1889 widower of Elizabeth Robertson at Burgh Poorhouses Paisley, again I can not make out the beginning of the address.
Regards Barbara.

1861 census
Hi Barbara,
Here it is - but no earlier additions to the children that Andrew found. You've got Elizabeth's far travelled dad though.
Looks like it was William who gave the details, as Elizabeth should've been daur, and the girls gr-daurs to Daniel as the household head.

1861 cens 573 Ed 23 p 7 (High Parish)
4 Wellmeadow St.
Daniel ROBERTSON, head, widower, 80, woolen weaver, b Dingwall, Rosshire
William JAMIESON, son-in-law, marr, 32, harness weaver, b Paisley
Elizabeth JAMIESON, wife, marr, 38, --------- b Paisley
Mary JAMIESON, daur, 6, scholar, b Paisley
Jane JAMIESON, daur, 4, ------- b Paisley

The Burgh Poorhouse was in Sneddon St (now New Sneddon St.) http://www.workhouses.org.uk/index.htm
Have you contacted the Paisley Reference Library on the off-chance there is a Poor Law Record for William?
Sometimes there is, but please don't build up your hopes too much - no harm in asking though. Staff are very helpful, but always very busy.

Hi Jack,
Thank you so much for the census details for William and family, and the added bonus of Daniel.
I will do as you suggest and mail the record office at Paisley to see if they do have any records, I did not think to do that.
Thank you for your much appreciated help Jack, I am very grateful.
Barbara.

Hi Jack,
I just wanted to thank you for suggesting I contact Paisley Record office.
I emailed them and today I have received in the post a fully detailed record of William Jamieson's time with them at the Poorhouse.
Many thanks for your help with this family I could not have done it without your help. Much appreciated.
Barbara.

Re Poor Law record
Hi Barbara,
Thanks for letting me know - so glad there was one. But probably not William's opinion!
