Christina Vass.....

Post by vass92 » Thu Nov 23, 2006 1:17 pm

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to trace the Birth & Death Records for my Gt Grandmother, Christina Vass, who was born c1849 in Inverary (according to 1861 Census for Kilfinichen & Kilvickeon, Argyll.) I know these "facts" are not reliable as the 1881 Census states she was born in Iona. I have tried both IGI Records and SP, but with no success.

She married John McCormick on the 6/11/1873 in Mull, this was his 3rd marriage, and I have the IGI record.

Can anyone help this genealogy novice?

Regards,
Elaine.

Hello Vass and welcome to TS. I'm sure the very knowledgable and extremely helpful people here will soon get you out of the novice category :D

Re Christina's death - there is an entry on SP which might fit:
Christina Vass, born 1849, other surname McCormick died in Kilfinichen Argyll in 1894. I think that would be worth checking out.

You will have her parents from her marriage cert to John McCormick - if you tell us their names, that might help in finding her birth.

Best wishes
Pinkshoes

PS sorry - just realised you'd signed your name - Welcome Elaine

Hi Elaine,
A very warm welcome to TalkingScot. :D

Seems someone else on the Mull Genealogy site has an interest in Christina VASS?
But maybe you are already in contact?

Do a Surname Index search for VASS at - http://www.mullgenealogy.co.uk/

Wishing you success, Jack

ps, but i notice the Mull entry has Christina's marriage as 20 Feb 1873,
maybe just a wee error by the lady who added the details?

Hi Everyone,

Wow - what a quick response and thanks to Pinkshoes I have found my ancestor - you are a star.

Thanks also to Jack who suggested the mullgenealogy site. The person you mention is a distant relative who has done a lot of research over the years. I do know that some of her dates are not quite right.

I just want to thank you so much and if I am in a muddle again I know the TS members will come to my rescue!

Regards,
Elaine (vass92)[/img]

Christina Vass - connection

Post by JackyHSF » Sun Dec 24, 2006 11:21 am

Hi Elaine

I believe we have a (very distant) connection by way of William VASS (the father of your Christina) and his second marriage - to Marion MacKAY (my GGG Aunt). I have some info on William's second family if you are interested.

Regards

Jacky

Hi Jacky,
Thanks for posting your message re William Vass. I think we may already have been in touch through Genes Reunited. I have the Marriage record of William Vass & Marion Sutherland (m.s. McKay) and I understand they had 3 children, Euphemia, Marion & William. Is this the same as your info?
Many thanks for your interest, but if you have anything more to add then of course I would be interested.

Best wishes, Elaine.
