Hello Joette
I don't know much about my Kerrs.
Elias Kerr (1793 - 1875, Ayr fisher in 1841 then usually a weaver)married Mary Crawford (1790 - 1867, Ayr)
I only mention them because one of their children,
Elias Kerr was born in High Paisley 24 Sept 1825. (a joiners apprentice 1841 in Ayr)
Their other children seem to be born in Ayr and there for censuses.
Margaret b1816
Mary b1819
James b1821
Sophia b 1823 - 1862, married David Campbell
Another James b 1831
Sophia is the only one I have followed as we are descended from her daughter Mary Crawford Campbell.
The elder Elias Kerr's death was reported by a grandson who didn't know who his grandfather's parents were, so no help connecting there.
Anyhow, those are my Kerr's, not much connection except for the name and the Paisley thing.
Merry Christmas

I, too, have Paisley Kerrs but they've no Irish connection I know of. The earliest is John, born about 1756 died 1849, married Janet Dunlop in 1788 and had 3 children I know of, Gavin b. 1787(premature??), Thomas b. 1795 & Isabella, my ancestor, b. 1800.

Well the Irish connection was a new one on me too! I always thought they were the scottish variety.
There are loads of Kerrs in the Paisley area too & I think I have looked at most of the Abbey Births,Marriages & Deaths for them(SP now owns my soul).I have not traced a marriage for any of the other Kerrs nor any children either but with so many i am hoping there must be soembody somewhere searching the same line!

Hi!
I've been merrily looking at this thread thinking "yeah I've a Mary Carr, Irish but doesn't look like she came across to Scotland". Then I took a wee look on my FTM porgram as the Paisley bit made me think and I've a Mary Carr and a Mary Kerr! Doh!
Anyway, Mary Kerr married Robert Donaldson, a grocer, somewhere near 1790. The had a daughter born 1793, based on census and death cert, called Mary Donaldson and Mary was born in Paisley. Mary married at Paisley Middle in 1814.
'Fraid that's all I know, no siblings yet and no further back on her parents.
All the best

Hi Joette
I am researching Kerrs from Ireland as well parents names are Hugh Kerr and Margaret McGleish(maybe yes or maybe no), their son Thomas bc 1825 came to Ayrshire and married Elizabeth Lauchlan 1851 and then died Jan 5 1855. I am doubtful of the accuracy of Elizabeth's information on the death certificate but that is all I have other than both parents were deceased.
Also I see that you are searching Torrance. I have a James Allan Lauchlan who married Annie Streetly Laing, when I googled that name it connects to Alex Laing married to Jacobina Torrance...do you have that name in any of your trees?

I am researching the Cummock or Commock name in Abbey Renfrew & the earliest couple I have reached is John Commock married to Agness Kerr or Karr who had children John & Elizabeth in the 1780s. So she would have been married before that & I guess born in the 1760's or a bit before possibly, but I don't have the details on her confirmed as yet (there is a birth in SP for Agness Kerr in 1849 in Abbey parents John Kerr & Jean Peock which is possible but there are others). Do you have this one?
Robert

As far as I know my Kerrs/Carrs arrived in Abbey around 1841-going by Census & ages of children who were all born Ireland(probably Donegal)
I am really keen to pursue this further but at the moment my memory & concentration are not good due to my health.
