Hi Ladybird
As you have a ref. no. I think your best plan of action would be to contact NAS and ask how much it would be to photocopy the document - the cost will depend on the number of pages.

Best wishes
Lesley

It was about £20 - £25 for about 40 (out of 70) pages of a divorce document. But it was well worth it. :)

Sylvia,

A colleague of mine (a former fire officer) did some research for a book published on the history of the Glasgow Fire Brigade so I asked him if he knew anything about this incident. He brought me in his little book and it gives the following information:

"The incident took place on Christmas Eve, 1927, on the premises of Wilson, Ronald & Co., Graham Square, Glasgow. A sudden collapse of masonry overwhelmed four of the attending firemen - James Conn, Harry McKellar, David Jeffrey and Morrison Dunbar."

These men are commemorated on a memorial to fire fighters who lost their lives on duty which can be found in Hamilton, Lanarkshire.

For more detailed information, you could contact The Mitchell Library for a copy of the Firemasters Report of the incident, or perhaps some kind soul would be willing to go have a look at it for you.

Hope this helps.

Helen

Had a quick Google...

http://www.accessmylibrary.com/coms2/su ... 004486_ITM (3rd paragraph from the bottom - The enquiry took place in 1928)

* County Sheriff Wilton presided at the inquiry into the circumstances in which four members of Glasgow City Fire Brigade lost their lives on Christmas Eve last year (1927). He paid an eloquent tribute to the heroism of the four firemen. The jury returned a verdict that death was caused by weight of debris falling on the firemen. The Jury foreman also placed on record their appreciation of the firemen's bravery. The four deceased were, Fireman Harry W McKellar, Fireman Morrison Dunbar, Fireman David Jeffrey and Fireman James Conn.

Also these, but just names mentioned...

Oh my goodness, thank you so much Helen and Mary.
What an awful thing to happen and will you look at all the poor guys who've lost their lives over the years......so sad.

I have brought up David Jeffrey's death cert on SP but it is so faint, it's basically unreadable....apparently I have to write to GROS who hold the original image.

I also think he deserves the cost of the copies of the Inquiry document, my small way of honouring a hero :(

Will keep you posted
many thanks again, Sylvia

Just do a contact form for illegible documents in SP (which apparently goes to GROS) and they will likely send you a photocopy. I've had a few that were unreadable online and they were very good about sending out a copy to me.
