Searching for an ancestor.....

Greetings from farthest Cornwall!
I hope I'm following the right procedure - I'm new to this game but I'm trying to trace a Robert Hollis born Edinburgh around 1811.
The 1861 English census lists him as a labourer working in Belper, Derbyshire. Several of his descendants bear the name Hollis as forenames. I'd be most grateful any help.

Welcome to TalkingScot.

There is an entry on the online IGI for Robert Hollis born in 1811 in Edinburgh. Unfortunately it is a submitted entry rather than one extracted from the records. That same IGI listing shows a marriage to Mary Ann in Matlock, Derbyshire about 1839.

This information may be good, or it may be estimated using data from censuses and the like, of unknown accuracy.
