Hello Judy

Welcome to TalkingScot!

Could you post some more details, such as names, dates, etc to give members here a better idea, who we're talking about?

Yes of course. The oldest record I can find is for Robert D. Culberson, born in Indiana in 1814, he married Martha Figgins born sept. 1820.
He is my great, great, great Grandfather. I suspected that they may have come from Scotland but not sure.

Judy,

Have you searched for any of your family on the IGI? Here's the link

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... _form=true

There are approx. 200 listings for the surname "Culbertson"

Black's "The Surnames of Scotland" certainly recognizes CULBERTSON as a Scottish surname.

I wouldn't ignore, either, the possibility of COLBER[T]SON, and even CUTHBER[T]SON.
