HEAD/BRICK WALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by loz » Fri Jan 12, 2007 8:34 am

Please can someone help me where to go next.
I am trying to find a marriage verification of JAMES MARTIN and JEAN GRAY.
They had a son THOMAS MARTIN (born around 1790- cant find his birth certificate but have death certificate and he died in Kirkden Scotland in 1866 aged 76) He was married to Ann Wighton.
I have tried all possibly web sites but have drawn a blank.
Family history appears to be pointing towards Kirkden and Newtyle areas. Considering the possibility they may infact not be scottish. Can someone help me where to go next
Thanks in advance.

The IGI site has this Marriage for them

http://www.familysearch.org
Thomas Martin
ANN WIGHTON Family
Marriage:
29 MAY 1813 Newtyle, Angus, Scotland

There are several children on there to this couple .Looks like they moved about within the Angus area.

Cheers

Thank you Momat for your help.

I had a look on the site which you mentioned. That is where I got my info about the marriage of Thomas and Ann. Am I doing something wrong Momat as I cant seem to see where you found out that they have children ???? I know of Thomas but was struggling to find anymore.

Its James Martin and Jean Gray I am having problems finding ( Thomas's parents). They are listed on Thomas's death certificate obtained from scotlandspeople but I cant seem to find them anywhere.
Appreciate any pointers or help
Thank you

Hi Loz

You can do a "parent search" on the IGI

go to http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... _form=true (IGI)

Don't put anything in the name boxes but put Thomas Martin in Father & Ann Wighton in mother. Then select your dates (I used 1823 +/- 10 years - as they married in 1813) and select Brithish Isles Scotland Angus.

If you think they had children in other counties - leave out the Angus and change the dates if you wish. You can also search on Thomas Martin father and simply Ann as mother - some parish records do not include the mother's maiden name.

I must sincerely apologies for not making myself clearer.
I actually have all the descendants of Thomas Martin and Ann Wighton. It is Thomas's mother and father James Martin and Jean Gray I am having problems finding. I very much appreciate the time you have taken to help me and am sorry if I mislead you with my posts. Any more help would be gratefully accepted
Thank you.

The only thing that comes up in Newtyle for James Martin as a possible is this.
I know it's not JeanGray ,but worth trying to follow up.
You may find a connection along the way.

A parent check brings up their children but no Thomas

James Martin
Male Family

Event(s):
Birth:
About 1773 Of, Newtyle, Angus, Scotland
Christening:
Death:
Burial:

Marriages:
Spouse: Janet Grant

There's a Thomas Martin born 1790 in Glamis Angus, Father name James Martin???
