McPherson's of Dalcottaig.....

Post by Wee Ann » Sun Feb 04, 2007 3:02 am

Having been helped enormously on my firsy quest on this site, (Thank you so much Ian) I wonder if some kind person could help me with this query?

My Grandmother was Christina McPherson of Dalcottaig in Inverness shire. I have found her and her parents, (Donald McPherson and Jane Richmond) and two of her siblings, (Alexander and Mary) but my problem is, I have been told, (by a reliable scource) that she was one of about six or seven offspring. This scource, a cousin, has given me the names of several of my Grandmother's sisters, but is unable to recall her brother's names. I have yet to find a trace of any of them, using the same search as for the ones I have found.

Where do I go from here?

Any help would be much appreciated

Living in hope

Can you give us the dates you have for the ones you know about?

Hi Wee Ann

From what you've given for names I searched for the DC for J* M*cPherson mn Richmond and found there was only one and she was married to a retired gamekeeper by the name of Donald and she died in Inveerness. Soooo...I'm assuming this is your family and by seeing the age she died at and knowing that Donald was still living when she died and guessing when the children would have been born I went immediately to the 1881 census. I believe this is that same family then:

PS...meant to add that I'm not certain how you located Alexander, Mary, and Christina but I'm guessing it might have been through the IGI with a parent search. The reason why you wouldn't find the other children there is the extracted records cut off at 1875. That's why the 1881 census comes in extremely handy!!! :D

Best wishes

McPherson's of Dalcottaig

Dear Mary and Jean,

Thank you both so much for your prompt replies. It seemed like magic!
I had been "browsing" after sending my 'post' and just happened to come back, intending to 'log off' and found your answers.

The date I have for my Grandmother's birth does not quite tally, but we get used to dates and ages on a census being slightly 'out'.

I have no doubt, this is indeed my family, and you have found me some more names. Thank you so much :D

Best Regards

Wee Ann
