KID/Ds of Fife

Post by Marg. » Sat Feb 17, 2007 6:06 am

Researching the KID/Ds in Fife, particularly the descendants of David KID and Susanna ALLAIN m. 1666. Descendants and information about their children Margaret b. 1671, David b. 1682, Alexander b. 1684 and Andrew b. 1686 are sought to add to the data and stories held on Andrew KID's grandson (by Robert KID b. 1728) Thomas KID/D b. 1761. Willing to share research and documents with any members of this family.
Descendant of James KIDD b. 1803 Kilconquhar son of Thomas and Margaret ANDERSON, immigrated Victoria, Australia 1839 & returned. Family immigrated Victoria then to Queensland, Western Australia, South Africa, a few cousins remain Scotland.

Hi Marg
I hope you find someone who can link into this family. Most of us would, I'm sure, love to be able to get as far back as you have done - well done!
I'm still stuck in the early 1700s...

What part of Fife are your Kid/ds from?

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Marg,

Had a look on the BIVRI and, apart from Margaret b: 6 Nov 1671 in Monimail, Fife there is only one other child listed, but his name is James!

As you can see from the surname spellings below, you might want to make use of the wildcards on SP.

KEDD, Margaret Chr: 6 Nov 1671 Fife Monimail
Fa: David KEDD
Mo: Susanna ALLAN
KED, James Chr: 7 Feb 1674 Fife Monimail
Fa: David KED
Mo: Susana ALLAN

McDonald or MacDonald (some couldn't make up their mind!), Bonner, Crichton, McKillop, Campbell, Cameron, Gitrig (+other spellings), Clark, Sloan, Stewart, McCutcheon, Ireland (the surname)

Hi Mary,

Thanks for you interest in our family and yes we have thought that that James was one of David and Susanna's. However, the family possibly moved to Kilconquhar. Yes, surname spelling changes but in 1682 David KID, 1684 Alexander KID and 1686 Andrew KID were born to parents David KID and Susanna ALLAIN/ALLAN/ALLONE accoring to the OPR and I have viewed the films.

I'm not familiar with the BIVR so where can I view this as I'm in Australia.

As a descendant of Andrew KID 1686, son of David and Sussan I am interested in establishing his exact parents. Andrew was a resident of Colinsburgh from the time the village was built in 1706/9 so I presume his Father David was part of the local Earl Colin's band of soldiers before his exile in Holland.

Any information available is most welcome.

Hi Lesley,

Our KID/D family is from Colinsburgh and from 1858 to 1904 mambers lived at 'Mayfield' on South Wynd, Colinsburgh.

The BIVRI (British Isles Vital Records Index) is available as a set of CD's from the Latter Day Saints site www.familysearch.com

I bought my set a while ago and it has been really helpful.

Hi Mary & Marg
I may be wrong, but is there not some wierd restriction (off the top of my head - its a dim, distant memory...) which results in the BIVRI not being availble to buy in Australia? I can't for the life of me remember why..

I've now had a look on the LDS website and it says nothing about that resticiton so maybe it has been lifted now..?

Best wishes

Hi Everyone,

It looks like you can order the Australian version. See here:

Hope this helps.

There was certainly a restriction on one or more LDS products to the effect that Australian residents couldn't order them. I'm fairly sure that this applied to the Australian VRI, and still does, but there's no reason that someone in Australia can't buy the British Isles VRI.

The reason for this restriction on the Oz VRI inside Oz is due to the contract that another organisation in Oz has with the relevant authorities giving them sole rights in Oz to produce and sell a similar product.

(And any Australian who wants to obtain a copy of the Oz VRI has only to speak to a mate in Kiwiland  )

David is absolutely correct - the only LDS cd set that you can't buy in Australia is the AVRI. This is because the states have produced separate CDs which they sell for approx 20 times as much as the LDS charge. It does only include 4 states, 2 of which are online for free and a third is online for a fee. The latest information on the AVRI is 1905 - some states finish earlier.

The BVRI is approx $30AU - beware of ebay - folks sell it there for $100 AU and people don't release you can buy direct from the LDS Aust office in Sydney. Their price includes postage & delivery seems to take about 3 days - brilliant service.

Trish

And any Australian who wants to obtain a copy of the Oz VRI has only to speak to a mate in Kiwiland or England, Scotland or the US :D :D - even after paying the postage it is very inexpensive

AVRI and BVRI

Post by Marg. » Sat Mar 24, 2007 5:20 am

Hi All,

Thanks to all of you for your interest and help. I knew what AVRI was but didn't recognise Vital Records as BVRI so will check them out again next time I'm on duty at our local Genealogical Library WAGS. I've mostly used the LDS films as the Fife Scots have great church records, at least in the Kilconquhar, Colinsburgh and Newburn areas I've been researching. Also the East Fife MIs have been marvelous and I was able to go straight to several graves when visiting in 1999.

I'm now going to visit 'scotlandspeople' to check out the new digitalised entries to see if they include any of the data I balked at paying for previously at a rate of 10 pounds sterling each.

Does any one need assistance with Fifers who immigrated to Western Australia. Shipping records are not the best but many BMDs, burials and local information are available.
