Jane Pirie/Mcleman

Post by melvinboy » Sun Feb 18, 2007 9:14 pm

I have found the death of John Mcleman b.24/12/1857.He died at East Manse Methil on 21/7/1940 aged 83.His profession was Ministry of Religion (Retired). It says he was married but did not give a name.He married Jane Beedie Pirie on 24/12/1888 in Lonmay. In the 1891 census the family were in Govanhill where they had a son John b. 1890 and an adopted daughter Jane aged 5.I have been told there were 4 children but i cant find anymore.I have also been unable to find his wife (Jane Beedie Pirie)'s death or unable to trace any of their children. Can anyone help,thanks...

If you search on SP for young John based on this:

You searched for: Surname: "M*cl*m*n"; Use Soundex: Off; Forename: "John*"; Sex: "Male"; Age From: 10; Age To: 11; Year: 1901;

in the whole country there is only 1 and it will lead you to the family. Father John is not at home and I haven't found him enumerated elsewhere just yet.

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Melvinboy,

I'd a wee look today for Jane Beedie Pirie's DC before and after 1940, but i couldn't find it.
Even tried Pirie & Pirrie alone, without combining McLeman, but still nothing.
So a bit of a mystery at the moment.
Do you know for certain that Jane did die in Scotland?

I cant be sure if she died in Scotland but i would have thought so as her husband died in Fife and as he was a minister i couldnt see them having been divorced. One of their sons died during the war in Shanghai. Her husband wasnt in Scotland in the 1901 census so wherever he was she may have joined him and died there.I have searched using just Pirie and searched using just Mcleman and found no death.I even looked for one of their children's marraige to see if maybe the mother was deceased but couldnt find any marraiges for thei children. Thanks for trying.

John Mcleman and Jane Beedie Pirie had 6 children
Jane b 1886 (adopted)
John b 1890 Govanhill
James Ewing b. 1895 Orkney Islands he married in Shanghai in 1931 and died there in 1942
Barbara Alice Mary b 1898 Orkney Islands
Beatrice Richardson b 1902 Orkney Islands
Gladys Rosetta Ramsay b 1903 Orkney Islands
The above Beatrice died 2 days before her 12th birthday in 1914 in Buckhaven Fife.If she died there in 1914 and her father died there in 1940 you would think that the mother would have died there as well but i still cant find her....

Hi melvinboy,

I've found my PIRIES indexed as PERIE, PERRIE and PIRRIE in the past.

My PIRIES and GORDONS are from Banffshire and Morayshire - any connections with yours?

Cheers..........Christine
