My own family line is Young and I have several David Youngs going back to the first I have found so far in 1810 in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire but most recently in Edinburgh up to the present day.
Hi Russell

I've also got Youngs from Cambuslang:
John Young (no dates) married Mary Millar 19 Feb 1803 (recorded 27 Nov 1803) they had the following children:
Margaret (b c 1803)
David (b 9 Feb 1806)
Andrew (b 2 Oct 1808, d 14 Jun 1886) married Margaret Smith
David (b 27 Dec 1810, d 30 Jan 1860) married Elisabeth McGee 5 Dec 1829 (my g-g-grandfather)
James (b 29 Aug 1813)
Robert (b 18 Jan 1816, d 8 Jan 1898) married (1) Agnes Shaw 30 Dec 1834, (2) Helen Clacher 29 Mar 1858
Elisabeth (b c 1818)
John Millar (b 14 Oct 1821)

All of the children were born in Cambuslang.

Ring any bells?

Hi Sheena

David Young and Elisabeth McGhee were my g-g-grandparents too.
My line is from their son James b 16 Jun 1837 in Kilmaurs, Ayrshire.

I have David & Elisabeth's children as
John b 6/11/1831 (Kilmaurs)
Agnes b 24/5/1834 (Kilmaurs) m Andrew MacKinnon 1855 (Kilmarnock)
James b 16/6/1837 (Kilmaurs) m 1.Jane Gilmour 2. Marion Anderson 3. Barbara Guthrie or Smith
John b 23/7/1840 (Kilmaurs)
Robert b 1/8/1842 (Kilmaurs)
Elizabeth b c. 1847 (Bothwell, Lanarkshire)
David b 31/7/1848 (Kilwinning, Ayrshire)
Robert b 26/10/1853 (Kilmaurs)

I'm descended from James Young and Marion Anderson.

Does this make us third cousins or closer :?: :?:

Oooh! I'm speechless :!: :!: (for once says my wife :!: )

Hi Russell

I'm stunned   I only asked on the off-chance since most of the family seem to have left Cambuslang. Why is it that I grew up only a few miles from you and even worked in the playschemes in Kilbarchan for a few summers but have to move to Lincolnshire and wait for over 30 years to find a cousin :?:

Do you know about David's brother Robert who had 16 kids and did quite well for himself/turned into a mini Rachman according to your point of view :?: :?:

I'm descended from the mysterious Elizabeth b c. 1847

I've got David and Elizabeth's children as

John b23 Oct 1831 (Kilmaurs)
Agnes b 24 May 1834 (Kilmaurs) m Andrew McKinnon 1855 (Kilmarnock)
James b 7 Jun 1837 (Kilmaurs) - only knew about Marion but knew he'd been married before her
John b 20 Jul 1840 (Kilmaurs) d 17 Jan 1855 (Kilmaurs)
Robert b 26 Jul 1842 (Kilmaurs)
Elizabeth b c. 1847 Bothwell m Robert Templeton 30 Aug 1878 (Kilmarnock) --> --> me
David b 15 Jul 1848 (Kilwinning) m Janet Hay 30 Jul 1875 Cambusnethan
Robert b 18 Oct 1853 (Kilmaurs) m Helen Baird 7 Dec 1880 Cambusnethan

I'll need to get working on the Youngs again.

I think we might be third cousins :!: :!: and I can't scream at my husband cos he left for 4 months in the Gulf on Wednesday :(

Drop me an email to: sheena at setait dot fsnet dot co dot uk (suitably amended) and we can swap notes !!!

Sheena

P.S. are you going to the Irish seminar in Glasgow??

Hi Sheena

Yippee

can I say it has been a long week waiting till you were back on-line.

Rather than take over a public thread for private family business I'll e-mail you directly.

Sorry Russell

Like I said, I thought it was just an off-chance because most of them seemed to have left Cambuslang and none of the ones I know about had apeeared in Edinburgh.
