Foot(e) family from Dunfermline

Post by donna petrie » Sun Mar 04, 2007 3:36 pm

Hello: I am wondering if anyone has ties or knowledge about the elusive Foot (e) family that originates in Dunfermline Fife, to Bo'ness. My earliest concrete record is a marriage for Ann(e) Foot(e) to John Henderson(1850) in Bo'ness.
Anne's death cert lists her parents as Alexander Foot ( a butcher) and Marion Lindsay. But, trying to find any Footes is difficult. I tried the census, more death certs with little success. I found a Marion Foot with father Alexander so that might be a sister. Can anyone help with these mysterious people? Are there any ideas of alternate names which might be confused with Foot such as Fute? Thanks Donna

I too am descended from the Foot(e) family. My line comes from Jean Foot(e) who married Andrew Hogan Betts. Jean was born in 1771 in Polmont Stirling and married Andrew in 1795 in Bo'ness, Stirlingshire.

Jean's parents were Robert Foot (b.1746) and Marjory Jack (b.1749) and they married 1770 in Polmont, Stirling.

Andrew Betts was born in Aberdour, Fife.

Think that there may be a possible link?

The two main names I came across were Foot and Foote.

Foot(e) family from Dunfermline

Hi Andy: The Bo'ness for my Footes is in West Lothian. I didn't know there was another in Sterlingshire. I have seen the name Robert Foot(e) once or twice and found an Alexander once in a kirk session but linked with a Marion Grierson.

My Anne was born in 1829 Fife; I think the Marion I mentioned was a sister because on her death cert it said her father , Alexander, was a butcher too. I have never found a marriage for Anne's parents, and have no other information about the Footes. We may have a link, but with so little information it is difficult to say. Thanks for the response. Donna

Sorry I meant West Lothian. It is as far as I am aware part of Falkirk Council area these days.

I havent come across an Alexander Foot(e)s yet i'm afraid. I have the family going back one more generation but there is no birth dates on it and I havent had much time to look into in depth.

Bo'ness and Carriden parishes transferred from West Lothian to Falkirk District Council (within Central Region) upon regionalisation in 1975, then after another local government shake-up that area became Falkirk Council in 1996. The main part of Falkirk District Council was made from the south-east part of Stirlingshire.

All the best,

Hi guys, I too am descended from Jean Foot through her daughter Elizabeth Betts who married George Robb. Just wondering if anything came of the Foots from Bo'ness thread?
Pandabean, maybe we could chat about the descendants of the Betts?

Hello Thistle
[TS_welcome]
Pandabean should see this post and reply shortly. I noticed that it is an old thread, but a few old threads have been coming back to life lately. =D>
