PLEASE HELP FIND BIRTH

Hi everone have been trying to find the birth of my g-g-grannie Catherine Figgins she married in 1856 aged 24 so she will have been born 1832 her parents names are James Figgins and Elizabeth Bain.I went on O.P.R from 1st January 1825 to December 1854 came up with two 1st one Annie Figgans d.o.b 30/05/1830 in Inveresk and Musselburgh. parents James Figgans and Elizabeth Bain .2nd one Isabella Figgars d.o.b 06/08/1826in Inveresk amd Musselbough parents James Figgars and Elizabeth Bain same parents as Catherine Figgins just spelt different.James Figgins and Elizabeth Bain were married 18/11/1825 in Inveresk and Musselbough.Elizabeth Figgins (nee Bain) died 12/10/1863 aged 62 informent James Figgins Husband.I also found James Figgins death he died 15/05/1890 but it says his wife his Agnes Anderson do you think he could have married again.I would love to know why my g-g-grannie's birth Catherine Figgins did'nt show up and if James Figgins did marry again I would like to thank people who have help me in the passed regards Ellen

Can't say i can see a birth for Catherine FIGGINS either.
And you probably have her brother too -
JAMES FEGGINS - Christening: 31 AUG 1828 Inveresk With Musselburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.

I can follow a James FIGGINS in the censuses from 1841 to 1881 - all in Largs, Ayrshire.
He was born Prestonpans abt 1806 and was a farmer / market gardener.
Is this a different James from yours?
He does have a wife Elizabeth up to 1861, then a wife Mary 1871, & a Mary Ann in 1881....
James also has a daur Catherine; born abt 1833 - says Ayrshire in 1841 census.
Also with in 1841 is Isabella b~1826, James b~1828, Ann, b~1830.
These 3 children were born outside Ayrshire.

There is an 1888 Largs marriage on SP for a James FIGGINS & Agnes ANDERSON.
Found by a search on the names.

Hi Jack thats the right family Catherine would have been born about the time you said and she was born in Ayr.Did'nt know of her brother James so THANK YOU for finding that.Elizabeth died 1863 so it looks like he went on to marry Mary then you said you found a marriage for a James Figgins and Agnes Anderson in1888.I wonder why Catherine's birth does'nt show up,do you think they might not off registered her just so odd when the other children got reistered well thanks again for your help Jack will just have to keep looking regards Ellen.

Hi Ellen,

A search on ScotlandsPeople shows only one marriage of a James Figgins to a Mary in the years 1863 to 1871. On checking tis on the online IGI, it shows the marriage of James Figgins to Mary Colville in Largs in 1864.

The free search on ScotlandsPeople shows that she died in 1873.

The online IGI then gives a marriage of James Figgins to Mary Ann Whitelaw in Glasgow in 1874. Her death can be found in 1886 on ScotlandsPeople.

Then from Jack's information, you have wife #4, Agnes Anderson. Her death is available on ScotlandsPeople, but the spelling is different. Use wildcards - Figg*n* and other surname Anderson, and she will show up, surviving him by over 20 years.

Glad they are the right family - would've been stuck otherwise!
Seems James FIGGINS, after he came to Ayrshire in the early 1830s, didn't get his children christened.
(unless it was in one of the Secession Churches or other)
Here are brief census details etc. for James - you may already have them, but in case not.
There's a bit of confusion on some children's names in the 1841 & 1851 censuses.
So you've a bit of unravelling to do!

Unsure if Mary in 1871 & Mary Ann in 1881 are the same person - two very different birthplaces.

Hi i would like to say Thank you to Andrewp and a big THANK YOU to Jack i did'nt have the census for none of them.I thought my family that's living was confussing but that as really thrown me what with Figgins and Higgins so i will have a lot of sorting to do,then James Figgins went on to marry Agnes Anderson the think is my surname is Anderson the Figgins is my Grannies side so i will be digging further in to the Figgins now to see what comes up many thanks again Andrewp and Jack regards Ellen
