HELP PLEASE!
I just bought some credits to view records at Scotland People, found what I think is the death record for Patric McKeon , died 1943 , used 5 credits to view it and got nothing!
What have I done wrong? Keep in mind that I'm still on my learners with computers

Brenda,
The first time I used it, I didn't notice the new window that opened, but only stayed on the task bar instead of appearing on the screen, asking me to approve running the application SP uses to let us view the documents. Until I found and approved it, the viewing screen stayed plain grey. Perhaps that might be what happened to you. You can always try to see it again by going to "previously viewed images" or something like that near the top of the page to see if that was the problem.

Hi Brenda,
Have you successfully viewed other images on ScotlandsPeople before? If you go back into that search, is the image now marked as paid?
As some people have compatibility issues with the online viewer programs, I would recommend that you go to your profile on ScotlandsPeople and select direct download. That allows you to download the image to your PC and view it on a program on your PC, rather than use one of the online viewers.
I see two Patrick McKeown (note spelling) results in the 1943 deaths, one in Bellshill and the other in Cadder (Eastern). Both of them have images available.
All the best,
AndrewP

Kathy & Andrew,
Thanks for trying to help.
This was the ifrst time I have tried to view records, noticed something about testing my browser to see if any / all of the options were ok.
Didn't have Actve?? but had the others.
I don't want to waste the credits I have in case I still can't view them

Brenda,
Forgive me if I'm covering what you already know, but going to "viewed images" won't cost you any credits. If it shows you've already paid to view an image, it doesn't cost to look at it again. On my screen the viewed images link appears in purple near the top left of the screen after I log in.
The text on that screen for items you've already looked at should look something like this:
1885 SRI Birth MCLEAN, JANE (Statutory Births 644/10 0559) 02:51:34 VIEW ADD TO TIMELINE DELETE
If the record you tried to look at is listed there, you can try to look at it again for no additional cost by clicking "view".

You can also go back and look at results of searches that you already paid for without being charged again. The documents you already viewed will be marked (PAID). You can look at these as many times as you want.
SP is really good about only charging you once for things and warning you when you are about to spend more credits.

Seems like we have our wires crossed..on my first attempt to view an image [ for 5 credits] all I got was a blank square.
I never got to view the record

Brenda,
I understood that you haven't seen the record yet, but it's likely that as far as SP is concerned, you have. So theoretically, you should be able to look at it "again" (for the first time) as if you'd already seen it, unless there's a compatibility issue with the viewer and your computer settings.
What a let down to expect to get that rush of discovery and instead get nothing.

Hi Brenda,
As far as I understand the blank square is one of these compatibility issues. Try the "direct download" method (change this setting in your ScotlandsPeople profile) and you should be able to downmload the image to your PC for viewing on some piece of software on your PC that should work for you.
Best regards,
AndrewP
