I am trying to find further info on Elesebeth Lukadit from Kilrenny, Fife - c1814. The surname appears only once on SP and I have Googled it and it only comes up once on LDS.
How can a name appear once out of the blue and disappear again? Does anyone know of the name 'Lukadit'?
Thanks

Hi maple23, and welcome,
Have you tried using wildcards in SP? That far back many people were illiterate and the person who wrote the names in the records could only write what they heard, or thought they heard.
Elesebeth could have been written as Elizabeth, Elisabeth, Lisbeth, etc...
Lukadit - I'd try replacing the vowels with * to start with. It's really a case of trial and error.
Good Luck

Just had a quick check and you're right about there being only one instance of that surname.
Can I assume that she married David Muir in Kilrenny, Fife in 1835? How did you get the 1814 possible birth year?

Hi Maple
and a warm welcome to Talking Scot
Do you happen to know if she survived past 1855? Have you maybe tried the 1841 & 51 census to see if she/they are still around - the 1851 might help with her place of birth and age. I suspect the surname is one where you will find a wide range of spelling choices. If I had not taken a peek at the marriage I was almost tempted to think some transcriber was having a wee joke (as in "look at it" more closely), but the writing is very clear in the OPR!
Best wishes

Hi Maple
She also turns up as LECADET on SP on the birth of son ALEXANDER on 14/09/1849 Kilrenny, which may suggest a French link, perhaps?
It is LECADIT on birth of daughter Barbara in 1848, LUCKADIT on birth of son David 1836, but LECADET is by far the most frequent representation of her name with the births of other children to that couple.
Best wishes

Without going off too much at a tangent, and just as a matter of interest, there are Lecadets in France:

Wow folks...thanks for this info and thank you also for your welcomes, all very much appreciated.
I got the spelling of 'Lukadit' from Banns and Marriages on SP when she married David Muir. At this moment I can't remember where I got her date of birth, it may have been a guess on my part as I tend to think in 20 year period from the info I already have and then I change when I know more.
I am so excited at the info you have provided that I am away now to check it out.
Thank you one and all.
