George Chapple - Dalkeith
Ok folks, another request for info. I am looking for the father of George Chapple, born abt 1843 in Dalkeith. I can find him on the 1871 Census with his family living at Greenwell House and he was a miner. However, I cannot find any info on his parents. Grateful for any clues.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

I wondered about him but the spelling put me off. I have been told by a relative that the spelling of Chapple has been consistentCaroline wrote:Found this on the IGI - could this be him?

Hi Maple23,
I found this on the BVRI discs.
Recorded in: Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland
Collection: West United Presbyterian
Father: Edward Chapple (no mother's name mentioned)
Child: George Chapel, Born: 15 Aug 1842; Christened: 11 Sep 1842
Child: Barbara Chapell, Born: 7 Jul 1844; Christened: 11 Aug 1844
Source: FHL Film 889478
Different spellngs of the name but that doesn't mean much. Unfortunately, no mother mentioned. Hope this might be of a little help.
I see you now have the information. I can't believe how slow I am...when I started answering this there were no posts besides the original.
Regards,
Anne H

Hi Maple
If George's eldest son was Edward, I'd say that puts old Edward in a pretty good position in running as father - your job now is to prove it! When your George got married, what church did he do it in? Does he state Dalkeith everytime as place of birth in a census? Have you checked the 1851 to see him as a child of 9-ish, hopefully with parents and siblings?
Best wishes
Lesley
I doubt it - the only name in my tree which has been consistent has been Smith... (we're talking thousands of folk and a good number of names here...)I have been told by a relative that the spelling of Chapple has been consistent

ps later,
Maple, you may already have this 1881 census too?
It's the same George & family from 1871.
Do you have him in 1861? He was possibly living with the family of his future wife.
i.e. IF she is Mary SHARP.
