You'll find the marriage on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk , but it's in 1885, not 1886.
In addition Isabella is shown as "Bella", and her surname is spelt MATHESON.
This marriage register entry will give you the names of all 4 parents, and it should be possible to go back at least another coupe of generations.
This is probably Rodereick in the 1881 census.

Hi lisajane,
Welcome to Talking Scot!
This looks like them in 1891:
Surfacen Ho, Contin, Ross & Cromarty
Roderick Finlayson, 36, head, born Lochalsh, Ross, Railway Surfaceman
Isabella Finlayson, 32, wife, born Lochalsh, Ross
Murdoch Finlayson, 5, son, born Lochalsh, Ross
Chrishina Finlayson, 3, daur, born Lochalsh, Ross
Donald Finlayson, 2, son, born Lochalsh, Ross
Christina Ann Finlayson, 3mo, daur, born Lochalsh, Ross
Some oddities from the ancestry OCR index, but not too difficult
All the best,
Sarah

In the 1891 census, the enumerator ran out of space in the address column and actually wrote "Surfacem. Ho.", - i.e. Surfaceman's House ! Having learnt from that, for the next household, he managed to squeeze in "Surfaceman's Ho."
Note that the village of Plockton is in the parish of Lochalsh, and that the main railway line from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh passes close by on its way down from Stathcarron.
As you will see from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk , the family can still be found in Plockton in 1901, now with 8 wains, but, from the birthplace shown for 3 of the younger kids, it looks like Roderick was "posted" up the line towards Inverness, to a hamlet 11¾ miles W by N of Dingwall, before returning to Plockton in the late 1890s. In fact, in 1891 the family, is also away from Plockton, a few miles further from Dingwall, living next to the manse!
Not at all unexpected to find railway employees moving such distances.

No, he's a Railway Surfaceman, and not in Plockton in 1891, but further along the line towards Inverness, some miles to the NW of Dingwall, in Contin parish from memory ...........SarahND wrote:Hi lisajane,

That was the son I found in Contin (see a few posts up). Was the father also a railway surfaceman? Didn't see him there...DavidWW wrote:No, he's a Railway Surfaceman, and not in Plockton in 1891, but further along the line towards Inverness, some miles to the NW of Dingwall, in Contin parish from memory ...........
Or is he the 75 year old "Road Man" in Kirknewton and East Calder who was born in Contin? I thought she said he was from Plockton.
Regards,
Sarah
