Hi Cathy,

Unfortunately, both her birth and marriage are pre-1855 and, as you likely know, the only one that will give at least her father's name is her birth/baptism. It is hoped that her mother will be named as well, but I have a couple where that was not the case.

Have you searched the OPR's for her birth in Muirkirk?

Me again,

There are only 7 births in Muirkirk, Ayrshire between 1800 and 1809 on SP, but whether she is one of them I couldn't say.

It's interesting that she gives Lanark for two censuses and Muirkirk for the middle one.

Just had another thought

As she gave Lanark on two censuses I had a look on IGI. There is...

ANNA ELISABETH ADAMSON Birth: 30 AUG 1806 Glasgow, Lanark

Father: JOHN ADAMSON
Mother: ELISABETH CATHERINA WEBER

As her son was also a John? Possible?

Hi Mary and Lesley,
I downloaded OPR birth of her daughter Marion (12 yr. old Mary on 41 census).
It has mother's name as Agnes Adamson.
There is an Agnes born to William Adamson & Agnes Baird 1804 on IGI.
Were Agnes and Ann interchangeable?

I have one Agnes, registered as such, who was Agnes on her 1st marriage but Ann on their children's births and for the 2nd marriage. Her second husband registered her death using Agnes.

Unfortunately, this is the only Agnes/Ann I can comment on as none of the others have yet revealed the whereabouts of their documents - yet

Hi Cathy,

I have someone married as Agnes, died as Agnes but on census as Ann.

Kind regards,

Alison

Thanks All.
I think this is one of those which I'll not be able to prove one way or the other because of the early dates.
