Deciphering Help

Post by Pandabean » Sat Apr 07, 2007 8:41 am

I was wondering if anyone can help do a quick deciphering of a name for me? I think that is J T Hendry, other possibilities that have been suggested by the other 2 people researching the line are that it is Hindy. Which to me seems a strange Scottish surname, if it is one.

Basically I am trying to help a possible relative who is related to my Adamson line and she is quite new to the world of genealogy.

This J(ames/ohn) is married to a Wilson, I have found several matches for Hendry Wilson marriage but none for a Hindy.

Thanks.

Hi Andy

Could you post up the whole certificate so we could make comparisons of how the Registrar has completed other words.

I can't say I have seen a HINDY but I have loads of Hen(d)ry links although its more often a surname.

It seems it was signed in the persons own hand rather than the registrars.

Apologies for it being a screenshot but that was all that was passed onto me.

Indeed, unless it's a "mark" the signature is always that of the informant, for a death and birth registration.

It's J T HENDRY, possibly "J F", 9 Lawrence Street, Glasgow (I was in digs a few houses away as a student!).
