William McLauchlan

Post by HeatherH » Thu Apr 19, 2007 11:58 pm

Hi there,
Could someone have a look at the 3rd entry on this for William McLauchlan 1885 June 22 , 2:30 am 1 Abbey Terrace . But what is this Street? It looks like Bameron/ Bameson Street Paisley. I had a look at a Paisley Street index and couldn't find anything that would fit .
Best guesses welcome.
Cheers,
Heather

Hi Heather,
I'd go for CAMERON Street.
1 Abbey Terrace was changed to
18 Bank Street in 1923.

ps,
1,2,3 Cameron St. were changed to
13,14,15 Bank St.
All rather confusing...!

I though it was Barncross Street at first view, but Google had nothing for that.

Had a look at there census entries for 1881 and 1891. In 1881 they are living at 4 South Croft, so must have moved by 1891 when they are in 1, Abbey Terrace.

I'm near certain that it's "Cameron".

Unfortunately there's not another capital "C" elsewhere on the page......

(I've had unfortunate experiences previously with Mr Allison's hand :!: )

I saw Cameron too but couldn't justify it....but didn't see any other alternatives either :?

THere is another capital "C" but it's the huge one at the top of the page....and written in a lovely hand.

Best wishes
Jean

Hello again,
There is a Capital "C" on the top of the page in County of Renfrew. I think Jack is right and it is Cameron Street just that the "C" is a wee bit squished. The registrar is Hugh Allison my 2nd Great Grand Uncle . When I realized that I had a look over the many other certs I have that he wrote and compared the letter forms .
Thanks for your help,
Heather

Hello: I am interested in your McLaughlin and Clark surnames. I have Agnes McLaughlin (b. 1808) married to John Duncan, Mary to John Jenkins: Agnes died 1889 and her parents were listed as William Mclaughlin and Elizabeth Mitchell. Of course last name spelling varies from entry to entry. I also have Alexander Clark married to Margaret Murray- daughter Christina married to James Dow. All Glasgow area and dates are early 1800s. Any ties? Donna

Hi - and I'm interested in your Torrances. Mine came from Hamilton area to Glasgow but there was also a connection with Whithorn and Stranraer. There was a link over 4 generations to Provision Merchants and Licensed Grocers but agriculture was a main contender too.
